Making leashing more fun?
I recently(2 days ago) got a 5 month old gsd puppy. He’s a rescue, and was rehomed to me, and he’s a lovely all black boy who I’m happy to have the opportunity to continue life with! He’s curious , friendly and very playful (aside from with toys much so far)
Prior to receiving him, I was made aware of one thing he struggled with, and that was walking on the leash. I knew a lot of people have experienced a multitude of similar things when it comes to teaching dogs the leash is fun, and I hoped to get recommendations on things that helped others progress.
at the moment we’re unsure if he experienced any abuse when it comes to leash pressure, but it’s definitely not out of the question. He has a slight uncomfortable response to seeing the leash itself , and doesn’t engage with it but won’t refuse to put it on- however any leash pressure what so ever does not work, and he will stand firmly and uncomfortably, which makes me feel more so that he had bad experiences prior being rescued., Im worried about being able to take him out for walks and hikes without him being unable to enjoy them, and I would really appreciate any suggestions on methods to use over time to help him learn the leash is safe for him !
