[actives] my first grow (GT) and the caps are kinda discolored on some pins? They don’t seem like aborts and they’re growing still. Contam? Mutation? Normal? Sorry I’m still a newb
[technique] Can I use this as a DIY flow hood? I got one for free!
Question is in the title but I am a teacher and my school got these for during the COVID pandemic. They had extra and I was blessed with one for free! If I can make my own flow hood with this I’m open to any suggestions on how to do it!
I bought a mono tub kit for my first attempt at growing actives and it says it comes with plugs to block the holes during incubation of the substrate. I know that mycelium is very resistant to CO2 and that part of the fruiting process is introducing it to O2 with FAE but doesn’t mycelium still need some fresh O2 so it doesn’t die or stall?
My question is should I just use the filter patches without plugging any of the holes? Or should I plug some of the hole or even all of them during substrate colonization?
Also to be clear I know it’s kind of a scam to buy a mono tub kit instead of just making my own but I wanted to be safe my first time and had some extra money. I’m making my own mono tubs from here on out.
TL;DR: bought a mono tub and I’m not sure if I should use the plugs provided to block off FAE during substrate colonization or if I should just let it ride with filter patches the whole time.
