SIB Saros if I love rogue-likes and rogue-lites but have less generous feelings about Returnal?

Saros is a feast for the eyes. It's hard to think of a game on the market right now that looks cooler. I guess that makes me the gaming equivalent of a baby excited by jangling keys.

But I bounced off of Returnal pretty hard. I am the filthy casual. I was filtered by the overwhelming difficulty and felt like I wasn't making any meaningful progress after slamming myself face-first into the brick wall again and again and again.

I play plenty of rogues. Hades 1 and 2, Dead Cells, Tiny Rogues, Voidigo -- these are some of my favorite games of all time. A big budget rogue in the vein of Returnal should have been the game for me, but something about it feels different. Unfortunately, I can't put my finger on just what that "something" is. I just know that I had a terrible time of going nowhere fast and deleted it from my console storage.

I do love chaotic, fantasy-flavored shooters in the vein of Remnant 1 and 2, too.

I've seen so many mixed reactions to Saros.

Door number one: It's just like Returnal! Play Saros if you loved Returnal!

Door number two: It's way different from Returnal! It added way more momentum that lets you fall forward even if you're getting mulched! Come back stronger!

Door number three: It's a poor man's Returnal! They gutted so much of what made the first one work and turned it into generic crowd-pleasing AAA slop!

Help me read the room. Give me your hot takes.

Dewdrop Dynasty release date trailer (July 21, 2026)

I was taken with this one as soon as I tried the demo and backed the Kickstarter what feels like a lifetime ago. I am so excited to see it finally has a firm release date.

A whole bunch of Warhammer 40K games are on sale right now. I'm most interested in Darktide, Rogue Trader, Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, and Battlesector. Do any of them stand out head and shoulders above the others? Are there any I missed? Any I should skip?

I've slowly been falling down the Warhammer 40K rabbit hole after Space Marine 2 fell into my lap via Playstation Plus. I think I'm ready to take the next big step, and Playstation is doing another sale.

I finally came around to team shooters with Helldivers 2. I have over 500 hours in that game, making it one of my most played games of all time, but even that game, as much as I love it, has an expiration date. I can only run those missions so many times. I'm thinking Darktide might be able to scratch that co-op horde shooter itch, even if I do prefer third-person POV to FPS. (I'm a big fan of the Earth Defense Force series as well. There's something satisfying about mulching waves of nasties. Along similar lines, I'm also considering John Carpenter's Toxic Commando and Far Far West whenever it reaches 1.0 status, but that is another topic altogether.)

Someone said that Rogue Trader is a great entry point for relative newbies, as it does a great job of introducing the world and telling a pretty compelling story. Someone said it borders on a visual novel or a CRPG at times, with how much emphasis there is on story and characters.

Chaos Gate was pitched to me as XCOM with a 40K coat of paint, although I did see a few reviews saying it puts just enough of a spin on the formula not to feel like a lazy clone. I like the idea of knocking a stone pillar on a group of enemies.

And Battlesector is apparently the closest I could ever come to playing the board game without actually playing it.

Surprising news

I thought Wuchang was done after the development team was dissolved and the director was forced out of the company earlier this year, but if someone is going to the trouble of acquiring the IP, then they might be planning to revive it.
