What is a feature you REALLY wanted in your “dream” home that you realized you actually hate?

So per the title, I’m very curious if there is anything, big or small, that people really wanted to have in their home, just to realize they don’t actually like it. Whether you realized before OR after getting it.

I’ll go first. I have always told myself that when my husband and I are ready to buy a house, it needs to have a big shower in the master bathroom. I thought these bathrooms were beautiful and luxurious, until I actually tried one.

I house sat for someone and used their shower. I realized not only did I not particularly like a huge shower, I hate it. This shower didn’t have a door attached to it, the glass didn’t go up to the ceiling, and there was no door connected to the bathroom at all. Which is a common design here. They were the coldest showers of my life. I had the water turned up super hot and if I wasn‘t directly under it, I was freezing. So much steam was escaping throughout the bathroom and bedroom, but I couldn’t even get the whole shower warm. It felt like such a waste of water to try to get everything to a decent temperature.

I now don’t care to have a huge shower and find it to be completely unappealing when touring homes. I’m glad I realized this now.

Not sure if this totally falls until this community, but I do feel like a lot of popular home features that we pay good money for and that use a lot of resources, are actually unnecessary and we don’t even end up loving them. It‘s consumption on a bigger scale but maybe some renovations or big home purchases would be avoided if we realized these things sooner.

Prayers for our baby with a rare heart condition

At our anatomy scan it was revealed that our baby girl has hypoplastic right heart syndrome. It’s very rare and doctors don’t have any explanation as to why it happened to us. We have been to a high risk clinic and a cardiologist who all confirmed this.

This diagnosis requires surgery one week after birth, two months in the NICU, constant monitoring at home, and then another surgery at 3-6 months. They can’t guarantee that she’ll survive through it all. Then if all that goes well, she will also have a third surgery at 4 years old.

Praise God, the rest of her body is healthy. But they still want to test for genetic conditions. They also warned us that due to the nature of heart surgeries on infants, it’s possible that she could have mental difficulties throughout life.

It has been a weird experience because we both feel like our baby girl is healthy. When we are out of the hospitals and living our normal life, it doesn’t feel like there is anything wrong. She moves and jumps around constantly. Everything feels normal.

Yet they told us that this is not something that can heal on its own. There is no chance of it going away or improving without intervention.

It’s terrifying. We don’t know how we‘ll afford this. We are young, first time parents. But we’re praying for a miracle. Praying that all the doctors will be amazed by the supernatural healing. God is the Great Physician and He is capable of healing, even when doctors say it’s impossible.

And no matter how it goes, we pray for peace. Peace and strength to handle this. I’ve been riddled with anxiety, fear, stress since finding out about this. I’m quite young but I can already see myself aging from stress. I know it’s not good for our baby either so I really need peace through this. We know we are blessed to be able to care for her and love her no matter how long that is.

My husband has also been absolutely amazing. This is incredibly hard for him too but he has been so strong for the both of us. We are so blessed to be able to lean on one another during times of hardship. Great, godly husbands need more appreciation.

We truly appreciate all the prayers. Thank you

Paid the estimated amount for ER visit but actual cost was cheaper? High Risk Pregnancy advice?

I’m pregnant and had an ER visit. The estimated cost was 1700. My husband and I don’t know anything about the medical world so we just accepted that this is how things work and we paid it right then and there. Fast forward, I got the actual claim through my insurance app, and it’s for 1300. And I received another bill for 150 for a doctor that I guess was out of network that they are actively saying I still need to pay. But that’s all less than 1700, so 1) why do they say we still owe 150 2) is there a way to get back the money we overpaid?

This is also an unexpectedly very high risk pregnancy. I mean appointments almost every week, likely going to need a C-section, baby will need immediate surgery. Everything is incredibly stressful and more complicated than even a normal pregnancy (which already is hard). If anyone has any tips on how to prepare for these costs please share with us.

Best shades for cool toned skin?

I’m super cool toned and find that many colors that are produced don’t flatter me. My favorite colors so far have been heather cloud white, admiral, cardamom, and sugarplum lilac. Three of which aren’t really being made anymore… are there any other colors that cool toned girls like? Specifically in the homestretch lines?

Does anyone have a shade of pink that they love? Thank you!

How to make zucchini chips not soggy?

I’ve been trying to make air fried chips for a little while now and they always turn out soggy. There is no crisp unless they get burnt. Yet when I look online, a lot of people seem to have success with this. I sliced them into thin circles, tossed with a little olive oil, parmesan, salt, garlic powder, and paprika. Put it in the air fryer for 12 minutes at 400°. What am I doing wrong? The same thing also happens with potato chips.

Artisan vs lodge linen

I was wondering if anyone could share their preferences with these pants! I’m pregnant and got a lot of recommendations for the lodge pants (thank you everyone) but after looking around, I found the artisan in linen too. They are both the same composition.

Why don’t people seem to recommend the artisan as much? I’m 5’4 with a short torso and I want something pretty low rise, would the artisan be a better fit for that? If you have the artisan, how much give is there in the waist? Is it true to size? Thank you!

Recs for pregnancy & postpartum?

Are there any pieces that anyone enjoyed while their body was fluctuating a lot? I’ll take recommendations for sweats, but I especially want ideas for everyday, slightly nicer outfits. Want to feel put together, flattered, and comfortable without too much effort. I prefer items made from cotton and linen (I live somewhere hot). If other places have good pieces too I would love to hear about it!

Requesting sizing help for homestretch hip cami

Does anyone have this top? I have the spectrum tank in hi-hip in several colors and I can confidently say they run big (I’m usually an xs but I buy xxs for those). I buy an xs for the rest of the homestretch tops. Do these also run big or are they tts? Thanks to anyone who can help!

Opinions on Sail linen pants and sizing?

Are these good quality linen pants? How is the sizing? I’m usually an xs, but I’m pregnant and thinking about sizing up to a small. I’m currently about 108 pounds now, I’ll probably get up to around 130 and then settle around 115. Which would be the better choice to get the most wear out of them for this time?

I already have the Charleston pants in a small, I preferred the rise of the xxs/xs (both sizes somehow fit essentially the same on me) but had to get the small to account for my hips.

Why is my hair texture better after putting it in braids?

I have no idea where to ask this so let me know if i should put this somewhere else but there's probably someone with an explanation so l'm hoping I can get some clarity. I'm white and my hair is pretty coarse, low porosity, and thick. The length goes down to the middle of my chest. I've been trying to grow it down to the crease of my elbow for years but it just gets too crispy before I have to cut it again. I have a lot of layers in it to try to minimize the weight. I used to get balayages, but it's been growing out for a couple years now and appears to be all my natural hair now. Maybe the last couple inches have been treated, but there wouldn't be much left. Never the less, my virgin and non-virgin hair have both consistently had this issue.

When I air dry my hair after a shower, it looks incredibly awful. It takes forever to dry, it has some waves but it's not cohesive. It gets tangled easily. It looks super thick and heavy and feels SO dry. As if I need to cut off five inches.

When I blow dry my hair, it looks a little better. Still takes awhile to dry, but I'm able to make it smoother. It doesn't feel as dry. My hair still ends up feeling thick and a bit tangled. I can run a brush through it fine, but the second I try to use my fingers, they get stuck and it's too thick to get through.

When I put Dutch braids in my hair while it's damp, it turns out amazing. I usually leave my braids in for a day or two before taking them out. Afterwards, it has volume and feels very soft. Doesn't feel dry or in need of a trim at all. It also holds onto the waves for a whole week. It doesn't end up as frizzy or tangled. I don't use any extra products during this either.

Am I the only one? Why are braids the only thing that makes my hair look healthy?

This is an inspo pic of the type of highlight I would want to have on the cheeks, brow bone, and inner corner of the eye. I want to look for a powder as I feel that they are easier to make more pigmented and are easier to control. I was looking at the rare beauty option but many people said that it breaks too easily so I’m a little wary.

I would prefer something that is under $30 even if that means it’s a mini! I was going to try the Hourglass mini but the bronzer was breaking me out so I decided against that option. Please let me know of more, especially if they are acne prone skin approved.

I’m sorry if this isn’t wear this is supposed to be posted and correct me if I’m wrong! :)
