Joe Brumm answers why the Bluey Movie is 3D and not 2D

I think Joe knows what he is doing. Just because it’s 3D doesn’t mean it’s bad.

Operation Avalanche German Blu-ray review

I recently bought the Operation Avalanche Blu-ray, the German version which is currently available on Amazon for about 25 bucks. I figured I’d go on here and give some advice for any Canadians or Americans who might want to buy it.

  1. Packaging: The Blu-ray comes in a standard Blu-ray case with no slipcover. The artwork has a giant age rating on it, but the cover is reversible and on the other side there is no age rating, which looks a lot cleaner. While the title of the movie is in English, all other text on the cover is in German. It’s worth noting that on the spine, the title of the movie is upside down.

  2. Compatibility: The disc is a region B blu-ray meaning it cannot be played on a standard Canada/US Blu-ray player. There are a few options in order to play it, though. You could get a region free Blu-ray player, either one that is modified or has a workaround. My Blu-ray player, the Panasonic UB820 has a way to play all region Blu-rays. On the error screen, press “stop” then mash the “Top Menu” button a bunch of times and it will take you to the menu and allow you to play it. Another way to play the disc is to get a PC Blu-ray drive and play it using VLC. If you set up VLC to play Blu-ray Discs (you’ll have to look up a tutorial) then it will also bypass regional encoding. There’s also the ripping software MakeMKV which bypasses regional encoding.

  3. The disc itself: Once you get into the disc, you’ll notice that the menus are in German, but it’s not hard at all to navigate the menus. German is the default language, so you’ll have to change the language to English every time. The biggest bummer to me is that there are only German subtitles present. I like to watch movies with subtitles, so it’s a shame I’ll have to go without for this movie. The actual movie looks great, a significant upgrade from the way it looks on Tubi. Unfortunately, there aren’t many special features on the disc. Just an interview you can find on YouTube and the trailers for the movie. The US DVD has more special features, but I only see that disc being sold for hundreds of dollars.

In my opinion, if you have a way to play it, the German Blu-ray is the best way to get a physical copy of Operation Avalanche right now. Although, now that I’ve bought it, they’re probably going to announce a new Blu-ray release with way more special features just to spite me. So you can all thank me when that happens in a month.

I really love the way Bingo says "His name's Telemachus" in this scene

She seems so fed up with Bluey's nonsense

Tony showtimes on 8/7??

I obviously want to see Tony as soon as it comes out but when I check theater showtimes none of them are on 8/7. The earliest shows are on 8/20 for some reason. Does anyone know why this is? Is there a list of theaters showing the movie on 8/7 and are any of the theaters in Florida?

Dear Tom Petty Estate: Please release the Pack Up The Plantation Concert Film

Pack Up The Plantation: Live! Is the second live album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It's not hard to find. It's on streaming, and you can buy it on CD or Vinyl easily. However, you might not be aware that there is also a concert film with the same name. It's true.

Here's the wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pack_Up_the_Plantation:_Live!_(film)

And here's the Letterboxd page: https://letterboxd.com/film/tom-petty-and-the-heartbreakers-pack-up-the/

Unfortunately, that film has only been released on VHS, or VHS-equivalent formats. It wasn't even released on Laserdisc, unlike 1995's "Playback." This puts it into an unfortunate spot, as it makes it very difficult to access in 2026. In my opinion, this film being limited to VHS is an insult to both film history and music history. I do think I know why, however. It's because the film features images of the rebel flag, particularly during the song "Rebels." In fact, the digital versions of the movie that I see floating around the internet are missing the song "Rebels."

I understand that Tom Petty's estate doesn't want Tom Petty associated with the rebel flag. But it feels like there is currently denial over the simple fact that he did, in fact use the rebel flag while promoting "Southern Accents." I think it would be perfectly fine to put a warning at the beginning of the film about its use of the rebel flag, emphasizing that Tom later apologized. But just because it has the rebel flag in it doesn't mean it should be lost forever. The film is a part of music history, film history, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers history. It would be a great shame to just pretend like it never existed.

You become Tyrant for a day. What do you do to end genital mutilation?

Hypothetical situation: You become tyrant of the United States for one day. During that day, you can put whatever laws on the books that you want, and they can't be undone. What changes do you make to end genital mutilation in the US? Here's what I would do:

  1. No genital surgeries may be done on any child, male or female. If it is discovered that someone is preforming genital surgeries on a child, he or she will be charged with the rape and torture of a child.

  2. If a man wants a circumcision, he must be 21 years of age or older. There will be a waitlist of multiple months to get the surgery, and he must watch a documentary about the functions of the foreskin and the downsides of circumcision beforehand.

  3. Anyone who has previously preformed circumcisions on minors must publicly denounce circumcision as genital mutilation and promise to never preform one again under. If they do not, they will be charged with the rape and torture of a child for every circumcision they have performed.

  4. Tools used for the genital mutilation of children (gomco clamps, circumstraints, etc) will be banned, rounded up and publicly destroyed. A few will be displayed in museums as torture devices.

  5. Warnings will be put on Movies and TV episodes that glorify or promote genital mutilation, similar to the warnings put on Movies and Cartoons that contain racist stereotypes. Examples that will have to have this warning are "Bad Moms," Sex and the City's "Old Dog, New Dicks," and South Park's "Ike's Wee Wee."

  6. Millions of dollars of government funding will be given to Foregen to truly restore lost foreskin. Once complete, it will be free for victims of circumcision to be restored.

  7. An anti-genital mutilation government organization will be created with the goal of stopping male and female genital mutilation in other countries.

Did I miss anything? Did I go too far? Did I not go far enough?

250 years ago, almost no one in America was circumcised.

I wanted to reflect on circumcision and America on the 250th anniversary. A lot of people here hate America because their genitals were cut by the American culture of genital mutilation. Mine were too. But I don't hate America.

I don't hate America because for the majority of its 250 years of being a country, it WASN'T a circumcising country. Many of history's great Americans were intact. George Washington was intact. Thomas Jefferson was Intact. Benjamin Franklin was intact. Abraham Lincoln was intact. Teddy Roosevelt was Intact.

Genital Mutilation has been a plague on this great nation for many decades now. But I don't believe this nation is beyond salvaging. Australia used to be a country where circumcision was common, but now it is a country where it is uncommon. The same thing can happen in America. It already is happening, as circumcision rates are declining every year. But it needs to decline faster. If we keep making our voices heard, then the era of American Circumcision will be seen as a temporary blight on an otherwise great nation.

Thoughts on the Bluey Movie leaks (assuming they are real)

It's looking more and more likely that the leaks of the Bluey Movie are actually real. It seems most people on this subreddit think they're fake, but I think you need to prepare for the possibility of the leaks being real. Anyway, here's some thoughts on them.

The first thing that jumps out about them is the 3D visuals. I know many people were hoping that the movie would be animated similarly to the show, and I would have liked it as well, but the simple truth is that the children of today are not used to going to 2D animated movies at all. If they want this movie to be a massive hit, it has to be 3D. And considering that, I think it actually looks pretty good. We get a close up look at Bluey's model, and the fur detail on her actually looks very nice. Plus, I think they translated the "rectangle" characters to 3D models about as well as they possibly could have. So considering it does have to be 3D, I think this actually is the best case scenario.

Then the other big thing is the cat family. Once again, I think they actually look quite nice, about as good as a "Bluey cat" possibly could look. The thing that worries me is what this means for the plot. Bluey is a 7 minute TV show that deals with simple premises that are relatable to children. "The Sign" upped the stakes for a 30 minute episode by having a wedding between 2 characters that we know, and the threat of the Heelers moving away forever. Now, for the movie, they have to have a plot that can carry a film that is 80 minutes long, minimum. And I hope they didn't land on Bluey... with cats. Because what makes Bluey special isn't the characters being dogs. They're essentially just normal humans, they're just dogs in the show to make it cuter. If they decide to do the plot of "The dog characters HATE the cats and they eventually learn to accept the cats as their equals" then that plot would seem a little too close to Zootopia's plot.

Anyway, even if the premise isn't one that I'm a big fan of, the film can still win me over by being funny, heartfelt, cute, with a great soundtrack like the show is. I trust Joe Brumm to make a good movie. What do you think about these leaks?

Operation Avalanche physical

I’m looking at getting a physical copy of Operation Avalanche. Unfortunately it seems that the only options are region locked to Europe, but I do have ways around region locking.

It seems the main options is the British DVD which I can get for around 15 dollars, or the German Blu-Ray which I can get for around 30 dollars.

Has anyone tried the DVD, and is it a good option for watching the film, or is it worth it to spring for the Blu-Ray. Or is it possible that it could be getting a new physical release soon and I should wait?
