an amazing sight to witness!! i took these by screen capturing videos :-)
It’s fun to explore the neighborhoods in town. Ocean Ave. connects the “presidents” neighborhood (from W. Washington St. to W. Harrison St.) and offers amazing views of the beach across dunes, beach grasses, wildflowers and coastal shrubs. If you walk south along Ocean Ave., you’ll reach a short stairway down to the sand and walk through a vegetation tunnel through Hooker Willow, Salal and Salmonberry, and onto the beach right behind the new lifeguard station.
We parked at the public restrooms across from the Chamber of Commerce, walked through the old downtown, and onto the beach here, then down to the Tolovana Park Wayside and back. We saw Bald Eagles, Osprey, and tons of gulls and Common Murres nesting on Haystack Rock. The Tufted Puffins were there but we didn’t see any. Total distance was about 4 miles.

Kinda messes with my head.
I was unable to keep up with the moderation of this sub for a good chunk of the past year due to health and life issues. When I could get back to it, it was ugly. I just got the queue cleaned up and here are my observations:
There’s a ton of stealth marketing and SPAM, including obvious AI-written posts. Most of these are “what features would you want in an app for ADHD people” type posts.
There is a large amount of what I would call low-effort posts. These include crossposts with no context, link-only posts, and posts with one or two words in the title that don’t really explain what the post is about.
Personally, I feel like crossposts are very low-effort. They can be spam, as when a person sends the same crosspost to multiple different subreddits. They require users to leave this subreddit in order to read the post and engage with it if they decide to comment. I would much rather keep the engagement in our community.
Over the past few days, I’ve implemented some updated rules and auto moderation, including disallowing crossposts, link-only posts, and any post with no text in the body. I’ve also required a minimum of 12 characters in the post title. I’ve added some auto-moderation tools to flag posts for review, delete obvious spam/offensive content, AI and advertising/astroturfing junk.
I’d like your opinions as to how you all feel about crossposts, since they’re so common. I get the instinct, especially for newly diagnosed people who have a question and are desperate for input. Answer the poll if you have an opinion, and let me know in the comments if you have any other thoughts. You’re the reason this sub is here, so I want you to have a say.
Thanks!
