Is there an SP404/beatmaking/ jam scene in Bali?

There’s pretty vivid scenes here in Shanghai, not to mention most of the places I’ve visited in SEA. Just a bunch of beat makers/synth musicians / other musicians getting together to casually make music together. Is there a community like that in Bali?

KO-2's my favorite backing track machine <3

Spent two hours cranking out 9 little beats, then played along with them. This is a zhongruan from China~ super easy to play if you've ever tried any string instruments.

No-Input Mixing on the EP-136

Cue output to either input, max the volume and put it through both effects. Not hard at all to make some really interesting sounds! Not overly harsh or annoying, surprisingly melodic and the Tremolo can easily make it rhythmic.

Why do the Brain, Punch-in, Midi Out, CV Out have volume/pan/FX sends?

Was digging into the MIDI routing and I suddenly realized I can control the pan, volume, and FX sends of these tracks. Am I missing something, or does this feature not actually... do anything?

Sunday evening in Nashville.

I love it down here. Visiting for the summer, such a peaceful place filled with music. Not as much beatmaking as I would’ve expected but loads of talented musicians.

Do projects reference drum kits in your library, or save them within the project?

I'd like to re-organize my drum kits and multi-sample library, but I'm wondering if it'll impact my existing projects.

Hypothetically:

  • Create a song using Drumkit "A"
  • Save project
  • Delete Drumkit "A" from the memory card

Will the project have any 'missing' files? My understanding is no, every drum kit or multi-sample used in a project is saved within the project, correct? I've not once experienced any 'missing files' errors.

Which synth has the worst menu-diving experience?

Flipping through my AE-30's menu one function at a time, or remembering that setting the RC505's length to 'free' was approx. 16 steps to the right has got me thinking about all the terrible menu's I've faced over the years. Thankfully, the RC505 has an online editor and the AE-30's got a companion app.

What's the worst menu-diving you've found? More interestingly, any instance where it was worth it?

Hi r/Synthesizers, let's address AI and vibe-coding

Hi everyone, I'm Yukes玉刻, your friendly neighborhood moderator. Let's talk AI.

In the age of AI, r/synthesizers has seen a growing wave of vibe-coded software, and it's been a rather polarizing topic. While we all love exploring new tools (especially free ones), AI-developed software comes with real concerns: controversial IP issues, security risks for users, misleading marketing, and the unavoidable environmental costs.

Last year, we had roughly 2-3 software posts per month. Now we're getting 3+ per week.

We already have rules against AI-generated content and remove it when reported, but we haven't yet addressed AI-developed software synths specifically. Today, that changes.

What's changing

We're expanding Rule #2 (No Sales Posts) to cover AI-developed software and building a megathread for all software.

  • Paid software created primarily with AI will be removed if reported.
  • All software announcements (paid or free, AI or not) will no longer be allowed as standalone posts.
  • A new megathread will serve as an open forum where all developers can share their work freely: paid or free, AI-assisted or not.
  • Software posts in the megathread do not require mod permission.

Why a megathread instead of an outright ban?

We recognize that many thoughtfully built tools use some degree of AI assistance. A dev using Copilot isn't the same as someone running a prompt and selling the output. And in our community specifically, people sharing free personal projects far outnumber those charging for fully AI-generated apps. This is something we're certain of, although that may change in the coming months.

We simply don't have the volunteer manpower to audit every piece of software and judge where it falls on the AI spectrum. The megathread gives all devs a space to share their work and are encouraged to differentiate themselves from AI works: show your process, link your git, and tell us what makes your project yours.

That said, we still don't want to encourage people profiting off work created primarily with AI. If you come across something like that, please report it.

This is a tough issue to navigate. AI poses real risks to both musicians and developers, and we don't want to encourage that. But a blanket ban on anything AI-touched would shut out experienced devs who've used standard modern tools. We think this is a reasonable middle ground, and we're open to feedback.

Greetings from sunny Shanghai!

[Megathread] New Softsynths, software and apps

This is a megathread for the promotion of all software synthesizers, virtual sequencers, Max Devices, VSTs, and all software.

  • All developers are welcome to post freely, both free and paid software are allowed.
  • Open-source & GIT software is welcomed.
  • Vibe-coded software made freely available may be shared; users must use their discretion and be aware of the potential dangers of using vibe-coded software.
  • Paid software developed primarily using AI is strongly discouraged and may be removed at the moderation team's discretion.
  • Do not repeatedly post your product.

All other sub rules apply. If you suspect a dev is charging for a vibe-coded app, forward your evidence to the mod team to have its removal considered. We cannot scan every entry to this megathread.

[Megathread] Homebrew/DIY Accessories for TE Gear! Share your designs here!

We all love to see custom PO cases, stands and the like. I've got them on every PO I own!

However, we've been a bit inundated with oversharing, commercial posts without permission, and we'd like to find a way to accommodate everyone without flooding the feed and removing everyone who doesn't reach out to us first.

As such, we've opted to create a megathread for anyone to post their creations freely.

The rules:

  • No second-hand selling or WTS/WTB.
  • you do not need to ask permission to post here
  • All DIY content goes here, not on its own post.
  • Hardware only, no software or samples.
  • Do not post more than once once per three months.
  • Posting links to sites blocked by default on reddit's spam filters (gumroad, etc.) will not be approved manually. If your post is removed without notice, you aught to host it elsewhere.
  • Report any repeated sales / spam / low-effort content as per usual

r/teenageengineering is not responsible for your purchases. Use your own judgement. Report scams to mod team if found.

Links to sales in comments of forum posts outside of this megathread will still be removed. You may link to comments in this megathread without issue.

Thank you for your understanding!

Could you attach a PVC tube to a wind synth's mouthpiece to make a hands-free MIDI CC Breath Controller?

I've got a few spare wind synths lying around. A buddy of mine wants a MIDI breath controller for playing keys.

I'm wondering, could I rig up a wind synth to sit on the table, with a PVC tube attached and sealed around the mouthpiece, to make a hands free CC controller, to spare him from buying a dedicated controller?

Obviously the controller would spit out a single note, but the CC data from breath could be routed without issue. I'm mainly asking if it'd work regarding the air flow, I imagine moisture would be the primary issue.

He's not looking for the precision that we typically expect out of a pro wind synth, mainly as an additional modulation source.

teenage engineering's sidekick may look like a simple mixer for the EP's at first glance, but there's quite a bit more to it! It's a quick and simple 6i4o USB interface that you can power using your phone, great for multi-tracking on the go (it can also record the main mix!). It's got some very fun built-in FX powered by TE's new beat detection algorithm, and they can be applied one per channel or as a master FX. Two of the channels have a strip featuring EQ and Comp/Saturation.

There's a lot you can do with it! Uploading a walkthrough quite soon that shows off all the functions in a neat and tidy way.

Got a big commercial gig tomorrow where I gotta wear some crazy mask and put on a crazy high energy set, which is a strange thing to ask of an ambient musician. But I’m down!

OP-XY’s gonna run the show, OP-1f for gyroscope-driven leads and FX for electric guzheng and electric Ruan, Soma Terra for the good shit, Diosynth for windy leads and a handful of bamboo flutes.

Wifey rescued this little baby and she won’t let me rehearse in peace but it’s all good, I’ve been keeping her busy all day.
