Which tie?

I am retired military and I am wearing my mini medals on a navy blazer and need help choosing between these two ties. If it helps, the shirt is blue & white micro-striped, and I am wearing it with pleated khakis. And the blazer has silver buttons.

Anyone else prefer homemade slides?

I have had a ton of slides over the years since I got into blues in 1991. I started with a 13/16 Craftsman deep well socket on my ring finger. I’ve had various models out of glass, chrome, and brass. Most worked well enough, but none were perfect. I really wanted the Coricidin bottle style slides to work, but the closed top made my finger sweat too much. But one of the biggest issues has always been the slide hitting the frets because of the weight (I’m disabled and arthritic so I use 8.5-39 strings with a normal action). Even moving the slide to my pinky finger didn’t help much.

So I decided to take matters into my own (rather large) hands and make my own using all the best features from slides I liked. Actually my favorite slide has been the Rock Slide in brass, but the top was heavy with extra brass and only a small hole at the top. I began my measuring my finger (I still got wrong the first time and had to move up from 20mm to 21mm, which was actually a HUGE difference on my knuckle). I cut it long with a pipe cutter (because it effectively rolls the edge inward as it cuts), and cleaned up the edges and shaped the cutout with a combo belt grinder/disc sander I’ve had for years. I got the length just barely long enough to cover all 6 strings at the 12th fret of my Reverend Sensei (measured from the shortest length of cutout to tip). I really had to clean up the edges though by hand because the grinder left them sharp enough to slice skin (ask me how I found out). I finally polished the brass with 800 grit sandpaper.

It took maybe 30 minutes total, and it works very well for me.

Here’s the link for the tubing I used. It’s long enough to get three slides out of it. My favorite (the one pictured here) was my second attempt. I never made the third.

HelloFresh has been nothing but extremely frustrating

I got a free trial offer from HelloFresh where my first box was supposed to be free and once I got my first box, I could decide whether to continue with my subscription or not. So I set it up for my box to come in for Monday because my wife was headed out of town. But they already wanted me to order my second box and continue with my subscription at full price before the first box ever showed up. It didn’t matter that I never got to try the food, I was just expected to keep ordering. So I decided I was going to cancel because a pause would only allow me to miss one week and I wanted to cancel because they promised it would be very very easy to reactivate my subscription once my box came in. But once I canceled, they just canceled my box and never told me.

So I’ve been waiting on food to eat while my wife was out of town that never showed up. I’m not terribly disappointed because I know how to cook. I am disabled now and this is something that my wife wanted to make it easier because things were pre-measured and organized and sorted.

The thing that got really frustrating is when I called their company and told them the process is broken and it just became a circular Logic of poor explanations that repeated itself three times before I gave up. I just wanted a box to try while my wife was out of town, and all I got was nothing. But that’s OK. I just found the sub today and I realize now that I probably have been spared from a lot more problems than if I had actually gotten the subscription.

Anyone else breaking new strings with Augustines?

I wanted to try the Augustine Gold because they’re meditation and wanted to give them 80/20 wounds strings a chance. But the D string broke before I even got normal tension. I was winding the high E when I heard what sounded like cracking. I honestly thought I was having wood damage better my eyes (ears?) until the string finally gave way. So I’m waiting on the replacement set from Amazon, who expects me to return the original strings… smh.

Old School LS400 or LS430?

I am looking to get out of my LX470 100-series and into a sedan. I am torn though between the LS400 and the 430. I know the 430 has a ton of nice upgrades, but the LS400 was THE luxury car of my early adult years (I’m 50).

Anyway, looking to hear first hand experience on the pros & cons, especially if I want to do as much maintenance in my driveway as possible.

As a Christian, I am surprised how many christians confuse biblical values for political ones

I couldn’t get a comment I saw about this statue out of my head. I wish I had upvoted it or saved it to give the proper person credit for inspiring this meme.

Edited to add: u/Bearwhale was the source.

So I am really liking these Dynacore Titanium Nylons, and I saw that the XT Dynacores are essentially the same trebles. But I am curious if anyone else is using them and likes them, and maybe already been here and done this.

If it helps, I am mainly playing rhythm accompaniment strumming on a standard classical guitar, with occasional runs. I like the permissiveness of flamenco strumming, but not the rattling and I don’t use golpe technique because we have a cajon player who provides the percussion.

Had to head into Greenville, and figured being two miles from PSA was a sign that I needed to stop in. Went browsing for AR stuff, but I always check out the clearance bin. And there waiting for me was a brand new MecGar mag for a 75 compact. So I snagged it since it also fits my P-01. I only wish there was more than one on there.

I think I have my actual home defense rounds picked out (190 grain Fort Scott TUI), but I need to run a few more magazines to be sure. But I get a malfunction way too often with the Hornady subsonics and want a better practice round that doesn’t cost stupid money. What recommendations do you have?
