Are you providing the right advice?

Hi everyone! I haven’t been a member of this sub for long, and joined because I love helping people grow their hobbies, and fall in love with Photography like I did over 15 years ago.

The reason I wanted to put up a post is due to the concerning information I have seen people give each other on this page. An example is One user suggesting a lens was broken or in need of “calibration” rather than addressing the photographer’s shortcomings with understanding shutter speed, motion blur, and focus techniques.

I love people helping people, but there are times where if you are not certain on the answer, the best course of action may be to hold off and see what others say first so you can also learn, or ask questions to understand the problem better.

Wrong answers can make problems worse. Being first to answer doesn’t make you right.

I hope you understand this genuinely comes from a place of love for the community. Thanks!

After / before - gravity optional - full edit flow

The Edit Flow:

Plate Shot: Took a clean background plate on a tripod to make masking the 'support' easier later.

The Action: Shot the subject at a high shutter speed to freeze the motion/pose.

Color Grading: Processed in Lightroom using my Lush [Portrait] preset. I leaned into a cooler, slightly moody tone to contrast with the orange architectural accents.

Masking: Created a hazy, halo above the subject they are reaching to using a radial mask, and a linear gradient below the subject, bringing your eye to him.

Compositing: Used Photoshop to mask out the milk crate/support and blend the two frames.

Happy to answer any questions about the workflow!

Gravity is Optional | GFX 100 II + 80mm f/1.7 - Full edit flow

Hi everyone! First post here. I'm usually a Sony Photographer, but Fuji let me borrow one of their GFX 100 ii and GF 80mm f1.7. Great opportunity to dip my toes into Medium Format, and play with the output.

Had some fun testing the limits of the GFX 100 II and the 80mm f/1.7. I wanted to create something that felt surreal but grounded in a very modern, geometric urban environment.

The Setup:

  • Camera: Fujifilm GFX 100 II
  • Lens: GF 80mm f/1.7 R WR
  • Settings: SS 1/800, f3.2, ISO 200

The Edit Flow:

  1. Plate Shot: Took a clean background plate on a tripod to make masking the 'support' easier later.
  2. The Action: Shot the subject at a high shutter speed to freeze the motion/pose.
  3. Color Grading: Processed in Lightroom using my Lush [Portrait] preset. I leaned into a cooler, slightly moody tone to contrast with the orange architectural accents.
  4. Masking: Created a hazy, halo above the subject they are reaching to using a radial mask, and a linear gradient below the subject, bringing your eye to him.
  5. Compositing: Used Photoshop to mask out the milk crate/support and blend the two frames.

Happy to answer any questions about the workflow!

Unfortunately, tickets are now sold out, so if you didn't snap them up, you will most likely miss this year.

Personally, I'm going for the community, to meet more people from our space, and grow my connections with you all.
