Waxahachie, TX - Scarborough Hollow - One day only!

I'm excited to announce that we've been booked for the first time ever at Scarborough's fall event. One day only, October 3, four shows somewhere between 1 and 8 pm. It will be my first large performance since spinal surgery earlier this year.

Mod note: You know how behind every rule there's a reason?

...because someone did something to require that rule?

FYI, dancers. We are getting an influx of visitors from India, nothing wrong with that, but along with that comes creepers with a different approach, ones that are not specifically against the rules (yet). Remember that I cannot control your DMs. If someone messages you and you don't know them, just refuse and block. I can't help there.

I should not have to make a rule about soliciting for "free photo shoots". WTF. If you see them, flag them immediately. Two reports takes it off the page and into mod review.

Automated response request: Message based on != approved member

I'd like to set up an automation so that when someone is trying to post media, the automation can check if they are approved member. if they are, they don't get the message and can post media (because they are approved). if they are not, they are warned their post will be submitted for review before it is posted. I already have automoderator set to flag media posts from unapproved members and that works, but it's after-the-act. I would like to let them know *before* they commit that their post may not make it through and it seems like if automation were expanded to let us check for approved membership it would be easy.

Also open to other ideas on how to do this.

Dometic fridge exterior vent insect covers: Yay or Nay?

Dometic fridge: When I bought my trailer the outside of the fridge where the vents are was clogged with dozens of dauber and wasp nests. So much so that the fridge couldn't get the air flow it needed to work. I want to put insect screens over the exterior vents to prevent this, but... will that impact the air flow the fridge needs to work properly?

Mod note (reddit related, not bellydance related)

Reddit is rolling out some new "features" as an experiment. One of these "features" is to default your basic feed into an algorithm based "suggested for you" list of posts. If you find reddit shoving of bunch of posts at you in subreddits you have not joined and you don't want that, change the feed to "following", as seen in the picture below. This will limit your feed to just the subreddits you've joined.

Sharing, just in case anyone else is as annoyed as I am.

Change "Fo You" to "Following". This is on PC, not sure how it looks on mobile devices.

Get RID of the suggested posts feature or at least....

Or at least make it obey our preferences. All I'm doing is clicking "Show fewer posts like this" through my whole feed when I have suggested posts turned OFF. After I post this, I'm going to fix my reddit bookmark to take me only to the sub I moderate so I can ignore all of the garbage reddit is trying to foist on me.

Doing a favor for Silvia

I've watched Silvia Salamanca for years and always admired her. She's been through some tough times, and offering a deal on her instruction to help her get through the latest. She does not know I'm promoting this here. If you're interested in her style and teaching, this is a great time to help her out. She had a baby at only 25 weeks, almost died in the process, and the child needs intensive medical care. Silvia is a fantastic dancer and teacher. If you're looking for some extra instruction she's got some good stuff to offer.

State of /r/Bellydance - mod update

A few months ago we made a major change, limiting media posts to approved members only, and providing a path to become an approved member. This has not resulted in any noticeable loss of viewership or followers but it has greatly reduced the number of posts moderators have to interact with and police. So we're calling this a success. The sub currently has a little over 20 thousand followers, and we are averaging about 79 thousand views a month. The biggest problem we have right now is with *reddit* and their stupid AI platform moderator. We are restoring posts reddit's AI moderator removes for no apparent reason far more than we are removing posts that break the rules. Either way, we much prefer restoring posts than removing them.

Keep spreading the word... post your events, events you're attending or hear about, and let vendors, teachers, and event coordinators know about us. Promoting here is free and welcome. Keep asking questions and supporting each other in this art form! Let's keep building this sub to be a great resource for bellydance across the world! I'm happy to provide the space, but what makes it live is *you* and your contributions.

Reddit's overall (AI?) moderation is getting wonky...

My sub had an individual post very detailed and lengthy, and informative, useful, valuable (you get the idea) responses to a question, several times over several hours. Reddit automatically removed them without notice. I could not find anything in the posts that would cause a removal.

Reddit, can we get a reason for why the AI thinks posts should be removed? Also, a notification option. As it is, I am now in the habit of checking the "removed" queue frequently to see if valuable content has been arbitrarily nuked by the AI.

I'm assuming it's an AI because it doing hard work very badly without oversight, which is what I've come to expect from AI.

devastated. is there hope at all?

My 20 year old beautiful daughter has revealed a glioblastoma diagnosis. She's been away at college but came home for the summer when she told us. She started "lite" chemo a month ago, self administered. The tumor was 3cm when it was found, completely by accident, as she volunteered to have an MRI done to help a radiologist friend. Doc deemed in inoperable. what kind of actual hell is this?
