Want to make this bag, still new to the craft I can use LeathercraftCAD. ANY tip should be appreciated on how to approach this(have never reverse-engineered a pattern)

Cleanest way to add a pocket/section

I love this pattern from TonySee and wanted to make this vintage looking messenger bag BUT there’s no partition inside the bag. I usually place my laptop and keys and other stuff together and don’t want any of them scratching the laptop so what can I do to prevent that?
I am fairly new to leathercraft hence I can’t think of a nice clean way to do that, also I don’t want to spoil the look of the bag.

Oiled natural veg tan and it made the leather weird

My journal seemed dry hence I used neatsfoot oil on it and it made it blotchy like above. I have previously used it in a lot of my projects and even on some thinner natural veg tan. This is the first time I’m seeing something like this happen.

Exactly 2 and a half months into leather-craft and I made this. First time I ever used a buckle and a d-ring on a project.
Always fascinated with leather-working videos, tried to do it myself with no prior experience.
My leather journey so far :-
1 bookmark, 6 wallets, 1 keyring, 2 sunglass covers and then this mini briefcase.
I’m so happy, feedback appreciated!
