I heard you guys like older cases retrofitted to modern solutions.
I present, my first very own NAS, build with one of my friends.
It features:
- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3440 @ 2.53GHz
- 16 GB ECC RAM
- Fujitsu 9300 8I LSI SAS3008 (IT-Mode)
- 6x2Tb WD Red WD20EFRX (Raid-Z2)
It is running TrueNAS with a couple minor apps, using a 1 gig connection.
Definetly not the fastest thing out there, but its mine, and it suits my needs. (Movie storage, documents archive.)

My first NAS
Me and one of my friends has decided to retrofit this older PC case for a better use.
The specs:
- Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X3440 @ 2.53GHz
- 16 GB ECC RAM
- Fujitsu 9300 8I LSI SAS3008 (IT-Mode)
- 6x2Tb WD Red WD20EFRX
It is running TrueNAS, and I created one pool in a RaidZ2 config. It also runs some basic apps such as TailScale and PLEX.
It has a 1Gb/s NIC so performance isn't really a huge concern, and it will mainly be used for document and movie storage.
