Is it unjust that babies who die enter Paradise without having to earn it?
I have a question about Allah’s justice and wisdom. I want to make it clear that I do not doubt the wisdom or justice of Allah SWT. I’m asking because I genuinely want to understand the wisdom behind this.
If a baby dies before reaching an age where they can understand right and wrong, they are considered innocent, and according to Islamic belief, they enter Paradise without having had to struggle, worship, or endure the tests that adults go through.
My question is: why is this not considered an imbalance or injustice toward those who live and are tested?
For example, an adult may spend their entire life struggling with their desires, suffering through hardships, performing acts of worship, avoiding sins, and ultimately hoping to enter Jannah. Meanwhile, an innocent baby who dies has seemingly bypassed all of these tests and receives Paradise without having to make any effort.
I understand that Allah SWT is not unjust to His servants, and I am not questioning that principle. Rather, I am trying to understand how this fits into Allah’s perfect justice and wisdom.
Is the idea that the reward of Paradise is not something anyone can claim to have “earned” independently, and that Allah gives it by His mercy? Or is there another theological explanation for why this is completely just?
I would really appreciate answers based on Qur’an, authentic hadith, and explanations from recognized scholars. Please correct me if there is a flaw in the way I’m framing the question.
