Grazie a tutti!

Sono un software engineer, ma ogni esperienza è ben accettata.

Grazie a tutti!

I just rented a flat in Reeperbahn, am I cooked?

Hi, I’m Italian moving to Hamburg for work.
Well.. I rented this house that looks cool and the price is not too bad, but later I discovered the true reality about Reeperbahn.

Is it still bad? I just want to be safe and be able to sleep at night.

What can I do regarding the situation? I have already signed the contract.

Should I tell you my house number to get a more precise opinion? My flat is in the fifth floor.

Thanks to everyone.

Would you take a full stack position today?

Hi, my goal is to get into big tech, but I don’t know if I should accept my current offer and then keep looking.

What would you do? Is it true that graduate positions are only for people who graduated recently and that have less than 12 months of work experience?

Help a young Software Engineer understand what to do with his life

Hi guys,

I'm about to get my Master's degree from TUM. I'm originally from Italy and I'm currently finishing up a year-long exchange here at TUM.

I've been looking for jobs and will probably receive an offer from a mid-sized company in Hamburg with a salary of around €55,000. My ultimate dream is to get into big tech, so I'm torn on what to do. Should I keep looking or just accept this offer for now?

To give you a bit more context on the Hamburg company: it's for a full-stack developer role (I'm worried that going full-stack might make it harder to pivot back to a specialized role later). Also, the reviews on Kununu and other sites scare me a bit, as several people mention a toxic work environment. Lastly, the salary feels quite low for the area and they want everybody to work on-site everyday.

I've had a few interviews with big tech companies (Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Bending Spoons) in the past but always got rejected. Lately, I'm getting screened out 95% of the time before even reaching the interview stage. People tell me this high rejection rate is normal right now, but I still feel like I might be doing something wrong.

On a final note, how much can a senior developer realistically make in Germany? Does it make sense for a young engineer to stay here, or is it better to target Switzerland or the UK instead?

It feels so hard as a young person today to understand what to do with all the things going on lately.

Thanks everyone!

Where to study system design questions?

Hi everyone,

I have an upcoming interview with Apple for a junior role, and I need to prepare for the system design portion (assuming I pass the initial interview I took yesterday!).

I know every team at Apple operates differently, so I wanted to ask: do you have any specific advice on how to prepare for a junior system design round? Where are the best places to study?

Thanks in advance to everyone!

Software engineer salary in 2026

Hi everyone,

Could you share your salary, where you live, and roughly how much you’re able to save each month?

I’ve received an offer from a company in Hamburg for €55k per year, and I’m not sure what to think about it. I’m about to finish my master’s degree, and I already have around 1.5 years of experience as a software engineer in Italy.

I feel like I should try to negotiate for a higher salary, but I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks everyone!

Edit: currently doing a one year long exchange at TUM

Ci sono cose che vi fanno dubitare dell’intelligenza del vostro partner?

Non ce molto da aggiungere, ultimamente ci sono cose che mi hanno fanno dubitare del mio partner. Voi come l’avete presa?
