Anyone please help me in my portfolio

So Im taking google's UX course on Coursera and I chose their prompt/project "Design an app and a responsive website that enables tutors to list their services and parents to search for and book time with tutors." But im very confused like where do I even start, what first step should I take. Ik its an iterative process but as a first timer I wanna do it step-by-step. I just need a kickstart thats all

Should I read these UX books?

Should I as a UX student read the UX Strategy by Jaime Levy, Design for how people think by John Whalen (both of them nowhere mentions they for practitioners/student too) and Articulating design decisions by Tom Greever which doesnt meantion anything about who it is for?

why the heck iPads are so fing fragile LORD!!!

seriously why no one told me this before and bigger thing why the hell i didnt knew about it.

I dropped my iPad from the bed height which is around 1m i guess and the power and volume buttons now are literally malfunctioning WTH! I didnt even notice it had two dents already and I tried scraping the back panel with my nail just to quick check and it literally peeled off.

Exepected fing better from a company whos products are literally marketed as premium

I think im a coward

So Im literally working on building my UX career rn with boot camp, and all. I mean im not getting any formal education at all, i have no mentor, "family" support, no one to guide just figuring out shit on my own. And "I" bought an iPad (biggest mistake) for sm "digital art" shit, didnt like it then plan changed I wanna do UX and now its possible but not so possible on iPad to do so. So everytime I try to practice on it most of the time its failure. And I cant afford any laptop now.

I always plan two choices before doing smthing so like if this failed I will do this and this just gets me nowhere like a lost child in the woods. I like the UX sm but its seems like failing. And now again im thinking to change my career path but this time its bc of the iPad not me. Im also thinking to do freelancing to save up for a macbook and provide the skills I have so far learned yet as services like lofi prototypes, wireframes, user flow and Information Architecture but then I think who even would want to hire for such basic services and this would take a lot of time before my "father" stops funding my studies from his .5% of his money.

So long story short now Im feeling distressed again and I feel like a fricking coward running away from things everytime when im in a difficult situation bc it feels like I dont wanna face them and thinking doing smth else would make the things different.

For how long should I provide my services free of cost?

So Im very young and that comes with me having no experience in any workforce. And idk how much its true but everyone say I shouldnt charge anything until I build my portfolio. So for how long should I just give em free of charge?

is iPad enough for UI/UX?

Im currently a student/learner and I practice wireframes and prototypes on iPad A16 and apart from not able to install SF symbols and material software it runs great until i start to go into hifi prototyping... and I really cant go for a macbook bc im in bit of a sticky situation but can I still hold onto iPad or I really would have to go for a macbook?
