Download - Super Soaker & A conflict of interest (in your orbit) by wheezingwheeler

I haven't read both stories, actually —I had planned to read them in the future, but I did download them back then.

I'm fully aware of the “situation”—but I also know all too well how annoying it is when beloved stories “just disappear”—regardless of the circumstances.

So I’d like to share copies of the two stories, “Super Soaker” and “A Conflict of Interest (in Your Orbit)” by wheezingwheeler—for the people who enjoyed them.

Maybe it’ll help someone.

Stranger Things/Byler x Game of Thrones

I’d like to briefly share a story I read the other day and really enjoyed.

Something “completely different” — it's set in the Game of Thrones universe (Westeros), so there's no Hawkins, Upside Down, supernatural events, etc.—in short: no Stranger Things.

I don't want to scare anyone off, but the story takes place in the Game of Thrones universe. This naturally includes various “dark elements”—which are part of the general plot and portrayal of Game of Thrones. None of these events are actually described explicitly in detail (hence the “Mature” rating), but they are part of the plot as such—and anyone who can’t handle that should avoid this story.

The fan art (obviously) isn't a 100% match, but symbolically (in terms of the message), it might actually be quite fitting (by cfog88). Let me explain...

You are the Sun of my days (and the Moon of my nights)

(2022)

The story tells the story of Mike (Micca), a soldier in the army of House Lannister, and Will (Alloy), a pleasure slave owned by Lord Baelish—their great love for one another, how it develops and blossoms, and how it is ultimately destroyed. The story tells a Game of Thrones-style tragedy—and gradually reveals the reasons for the downfall, along with the message that, in my opinion, the story aims to convey. It's not that long and consists of 1 chapter, ~15,000 words, and is told from Mike’s (Micca’s) perspective.

You don’t have to have watched Game of Thrones or read the books to understand the story. However, it does help to contextualize the plot and the circumstances—though it’s not necessary.

In my opinion, the characteristics of our characters still come through—albeit, of course, “adapted” to the Game of Thrones universe(!) - and therefore, in a sense, for what our characters stand for. The story also weaves together various subplots from Game of Thrones, anyone familiar with Game of Thrones will notice this.

Complete Game of Thrones AO. No Upside Down.
As Mike cleans the body of his dead lover and slave, he wonders back to the reasons that eventually shattered their love and led them to where they ended.

The names have been changed in the dialogues to stay true to the universe.

Will => Alloy
Mike => Micca
Steve => Seneca
El => Jayne
Dustin => Torsten
Lucas => Luka

---

All in all, I find the concept—or rather, the idea—really interesting—even though, of course, it’s ultimately a tragedy, a story with a sad ending.

At this point, I’d like to ask if anyone knows of any other (Byler-centered) AU stories set in the Game of Thrones universe? The ideas—and the possibilities—for building a story in this universe are truly countless.

There's something about this picture

In a crowded street or a deserted square, I'll turn and I'll see you, as if our love were new.

Two AU stories I wanted to share

Lately, I’ve been reading more AU stories, and I wanted to share two of them here.

These are teenage novels set (partly) in the ST universe but take a different path from the canon. I actually really enjoyed reading them; after just one or two chapters at the latest, both stories had me hooked.

So I’d like to briefly introduce both stories—maybe someone else will enjoy them too.

The fan art is by dunwichbore and, technically speaking, has nothing to do with the two stories; I just think it’s absolutely beautiful—oh, and it shows that both stories have a happy ending.

Where Were You (When I Was Lonesome)

(2023)

The story begins in 1987 and is AU (ghosts/no supernatural events/Upside Down, etc.). Will Byers died on November 6, 1983, and eventually returns as a ghost, appearing in Mike Wheeler's basement. The story comprises 15 chapters and ~86,000 words and is told alternately from Mike's and Will's POV.

At first, Will has no memory of what might have happened or why (not even his own name...)—and as readers, we’re just as clueless. Little by little, our two idiots manage to communicate with each other (very nicely and familiar done, in my opinion!)—and so we gather clues about what really happened here as well as in 1983—and piece the puzzle together. And we realize that... the story is a bit more than it might seem at first.

The plot and the inner thoughts of our characters are “a bit shallower,” I’d say (it is a teenage novel, after all)—but! In my opinion, it’s written absolutely charmingly. Mike and Will’s inner conflicts still come through. It also quickly becomes clear just what a hopeless case Mike Wheeler is 😄

>He didn’t really understand why someone would want to go to a cemetery for a birthday party, but hey, maybe Will was a bit of a weird kid.
“Hey Will.” Mike called, his voice gentler than he had ever heard it.
He whipped his head around, scanning the rows for another figure, desperately looking for Will. It didn’t really click until Mike stepped forward and knelt beside a grave, placing his perfectly imperfect cake in front of a well-kept headstone.
Oh.

Will Byers is dead.

So how the hell did he end up stuck haunting Mike Wheeler's basement?

Left His Heart There in the Sea

(2024)

The story begins in 1998 and tells the story of Will Byers, a scientist who was dragged into the Upside Down in 1983, survived, and has since been trying to make a living—perhaps to earn his doctorate in an unrecognized scientific discipline (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”). Formally, the story is AU (merpeople/Mike and Will never met...) based on the canon of Season 1; everything happened (more or less) as depicted—with the exception that Mike Wheeler does not exist. The story comprises 22 chapters and ~134,000 words and is told (mostly) from Will's POV.

The Hawkins Lab has captured something new—everyone can guess what that might be—and Will is called in for assistance. The story essentially invents its own science and expands upon it as the plot unfolds. Likewise, not everything here is quite... what it might seem at first, well.

Little by little, familiar characters from ST return and enrich the story—albeit in a completely different context; as I mentioned, the story is technically based on the canon of Season 1—but it still fits in my opinion. Together, we try to unravel the mystery of this mysterious “something” that the Hawkins Lab has trapped there.

A major aspect of the story deals with communication and the differences between... which I personally find very interestingly portrayed. But here, too, it becomes clear relatively quickly just what hopeless cases our idiots actually are 😄 And so, perhaps, something else is also becoming clearer and clearer little by little...

>“Mr. Byers! I was hoping to catch you. This is Dr. Owens, from Hawkins National Laboratory.”
Will pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance, already feeling a headache beginning to form in his temples. "I’m kind of in the middle of a lecture here, can this wait?”
“I’m afraid it can’t. We need your assistance urgently.”
“And why do you need me?” Will was unable to suppress the bitterness in his tone, “You’ve got plenty of experts and doctors on your staff. I’m just a grad student, and I’m halfway across the country. What could I possibly do that no one else could?”
Dr. Owens cleared his throat on the other end of the line, “You’re the only one who’s been there and made it out alive. Honestly, we could use your expertise. We’ve caught a specimen. A live one. And you’re definitely going to want to see this.”

Or, it's 1998 and the Upside Down is still alive and kicking, and something new just came out.
