As a beginner who just finished C25K — what do you think of this 5-week plan?
I’m 21M and just finished C25K after starting from basically zero. I started May 11 and finished August 10 (with a COVID interruption).
My first 5K was 48 min, on W9D3, (9:47/km, avg HR 166). Today I ran my second 5K in 46:19 (9:16/km, avg HR 171).
My cardio seems to be my limiting factor: my HR is relatively high for my pace, but it stabilizes surprisingly well once I’m ~15 min into a run. I’m also naturally quite fast, so I deliberately run slowly right now to keep the effort manageable.
My goal is eventually a sub-40 5K, then sub-60 10K.
I don't want complicated intervals, so I made this simple 3-run/week plan (first column for each week is duration in minutes, second one is speed in min/km, third one is the avg bpm that i'd have to fill)
The 9:00/km run is genuinely hard for me right now(HR-wise) , so I’m treating Run 2 as my hard session. I’ll track actual pace + average HR after every run.
What do yoy think about this plan? Any changes you'd make?
Crack appeared on FR170 lug/case after just 1 week — is this common?
Bought my Forerunner 170 exactly one week ago. Today this crack/line suddenly showed up where the case meets the strap lug (see photos). I didn't drop it or hit it against anything that I noticed, it just appeared.
Has anyone else had this issue on the 170, or on similar Garmin models? Trying to figure out if this is a known manufacturing weak point before I contact Garmin support.
W9D3, 4 months of work distilled into 5K
Started C25K on May 11th, and yesterday, August 10th, I finally completed W9D3: 5K in 48:56 (9:47/km).
Honestly, I'm proud of finishing, but I'm also struggling with the numbers. I'm 21, and my average HR was 166 bpm at this pace (175 max). It makes me feel pretty depressed and ashamed, especially after 4 months of training. I know everyone progresses differently, but seeing such a high HR for such a slow pace really gets to me.
Finally got my first Garmin
After a very long time of researching, comparing models and going back and forth on whether it was actually worth it, I finally got one.
It's quite an expensive purchase for me, so I really took my time before pulling the trigger.
Still feels a bit unreal seeing it on my wrist after spending so much time looking at Garmin watches online🥹🥹🥹🥹

W5D3.. the hardest part wasn't the 20 minutes... it was pressing "Start".
Today I completed W5D3 of Couch to 5K (20 minutes nonstop).
A couple of weeks ago I couldn't even run 3 minutes without feeling like I was dying. I was convinced the jump to 20 minutes was impossible.
It wasn't easy, but it turned out to be way more mental than physical. I slowed down a lot, stopped caring about pace, and just kept moving.
If you're approaching W5D3 and you're anxious about it like I was, trust the program. You might surprise yourself.
However, is the average heart rate normal for such a slow pace?
W3D3 complete, but my HR is still ridiculously high. Anyone else?
Hey everyone,
I'm Rayane, 21M,
I just finished C25K Week 3 Day 3 and I'm honestly feeling a bit disappointed.
The workout was:
- 5 min walk
- 1.5 min run / 1.5 min walk
- 3 min run / 3 min walk
- 1.5 min run / 1.5 min walk
- 3 min run
- 5 min walk
Stats from today's session:
- Duration: 25 min
- Distance: 2.58 km
- Average HR: 142 bpm
- Max HR: 175 bpm
- Average pace: 9:41 min/km
- Running pace: around 7:00-7:30 min/km
- Estimated VO2max: 44
What frustrates me is that after 9 C25K sessions, my heart rate still shoots up to 170-175 bpm during the 3-minute running intervals. By the end of those intervals I can't hold a conversation at all.
I also had a strong skipped heartbeat/PVC during the first 3-minute interval, followed by about a second of dizziness. I've had cardiology checkups in the past and apparently it's all linked to chronic anxiety.
I keep reading about people who are cruising through Week 3, while I'm here struggling with 3-minute runs and already worried about Week 4's 5-minute intervals.
Am I the only one whose heart rate stayed this high at the end of Week 3?
Did anyone else feel like they were barely surviving the 3-minute intervals but still eventually completed the program?
I'd love to hear some experiences because right now it feels like my endurance is improving much more slowly than expected.
Thanks! 🙏
