Here’s my Casio MDV-106DD-1A “duro” on this chill, family filled Saturday!
Hey guys! After I made this post, I looked heavily into micro brands, and I’m sold! I get it now! But I ran across another major problem.
Every watch I find that is not only stunning and within a decent price range is sold out, never to be released again.
And on top of that, going onto r/watchexchange comes up with either nothing or all of the watches sold months to years ago. For example, the ikigai Kame 200m in “Horizon blue”— What a gorgeous watch! I finally understand what makes a micro so great!
But it’s gone forever. I’ll never be able to buy one new even if I could afford it. And second hand buying options are limited at best.
I hope one day a watch will release and I’ll be on the forefront of the hype train, and I’ll have the ability to put my money where my heart lies, and put up a post on this sub with a pic of a new micro. But until then, a man can dream.
—Thank you all for helping me on this journey!
Hi! I hope I don’t sound like a jerk for saying it like that, but it genuinely has been a question that’s been eating at me for a month now.
I’m getting into watch collecting, consuming all the media, watching recommendation videos, and every now and again I’ll see a microbrand recommended.
And it makes me wonder, “why would someone buy a watch from a microbrand? What makes them so great?
I feel my current niche is affordable Japanese watches (Casio, seiko, orient, citizen) which have a large dealer network, dependable quality control and customer service,
And most of all, reputation. Street cred.
Anyone who isn’t a luxury watch snob will notice a beautiful orient and go:
“wow, nice bambino!”
Where as I suppose if someone did spot my wrist and tell me something like “nice RZE” I’d be surprised that someone actually knew what it was.
I don’t want to be a miserable snob.
I want to like microbrands
But if it’s not some kooky design or something ultra minimalist, it’s a generic field/sports/diver/pilot/dress watch that you can buy for sometimes half the price of one of these things.
Like seriously, $675 for a Astor + banks
Fortitude with a Miyota 9015? Can’t I get a citizen tsuyosa for $475 retail and $269 on Jomashop? Yes! Wanna know why? Cause I did!
Again. I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yumms, I just don’t get it.
Someone PLEASE EDUCATE ME! I’M ASKING SERIOUSLY!
TL;DR.
Someone please tell me why microbrands are so popular, and what makes them better than a mainstream brand?
Received a text message from G-SHOCK this morning announcing the new “LUXE BLACK” edition CasiOak models. And might i say, these are very nice looking pieces.
The GA2100 in resin and the GM2100 with metal case. The -1A variants with all black dials with what look like silver accents and the -7A variants with gold accents. Absolutely stunning!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but are these dials with the waffle texture pattern unique to these models?
Something else I will say, is that these modules would probably look fantastic in a full stainless case and bracelet mod setup.
I might have to cough up some cash before these run out. Because I do not want to miss this boat.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on these new G-SHOCKs? I’ve been a fan of the design of the G2100 series for a while, and I feel like Casio knocked it out of the park with this edition.
