3d printable sunglasses holder

2 piece 3d printable shelf for your center console compartment. Sticks together but you should use a little CA glue to make it permanent, I didn't do anything clever to make it snap together.

Thingiverse link

I just whipped this up yesterday. Open to improvements.

It's Friday, time for a provocative post from a moderator

Hey, how's everyone doing out there. Couple reminders for this sub.

No Sales (of anything)

I think I removed a really harmless comment this week by someone offering to make someone a holster. In most subs this kind of thing would be a non-issue, but Reddit is very picky about firearms. Note that rule 3 is no buing, selling, trading, or advertising including accessories.

It's not explicitly stated but links to stores continues to be fine, it's personal sales that is against the rule. There's at least a couple websites you can turn to for personal transactions.

Gee Whiz People Stay On Topic

There's been some plastering of miscellaneous topics by a few individuals here lately. This sub is specifically for Californians to talk about guns in California.

  • Want to talk about guns you can't have in California? r/guns
  • Want to talk about not guns in California? r/california
  • Want to post pictures which contain both guns and feet? r/caguns

We're not hurting for traffic on this sub. I appreciate a lot of us feel like this is our home sub to talk about everything under the sun, but it's not.

Politics

Whew, it's definitely that season. Let's take some deep breaths before whipping out the insults in some of these threads. That u/kmoros thread about Trump's 2A related reactions actually went pretty well.

General rule of thumb is that person whose politics you're attacking is also someone you want to vote the way you vote, as well a (likely) a respectable member of our community. Treat them well. A little grace goes a long way.

There's been a pattern of people accusing everyone else of being anti-2A or of one party/sect or another. Let's not do that. It's dumb, and let me tell you how much I love handing out bans for dumb stuff. So much. Literally my favorite.

In Closing

Stay cool, keep your cool, and go shooting.

In addition to the inevitable discussions in this thread, somebody post some suggestions on what 2A orgs to donate to.

Disinterest in toys?

~7 month old Fischer's lovebird that I've had for about a month is doing quite well. She has a good cage setup and some out of the cage time where she can fly around the house etc. Will sit on me for food but still skeptical of my hands. But overall things going fine.

I got a set of toy balls intended for budgies. You know the kind, different colors and patterns of plastic balls with a bell or bead inside to make a little noise. She's got plenty of time to be bored in her cage so I figured she'd do something with these.

So far all she did was toss one off the top of the cage.

She doesn't exhibit any particular boredom symptoms. Doesn't squawk much unless it's chirping along with music or chattering when I'm trying to talk to someone. No feather plucking or shrieking. She just seems mostly content to sit on her perches and fly around the house a little bit.

I've got some sisal rope so I intend to hang one somewhere that she can nudge around easily.

Any other suggestions?

It was going so well...

Have a ~6 month Fischer's lovebird. Have had her for almost 3 weeks.

Had her stepping onto my hand and flying onto my hand for treats inside the cage for about a week, every day seemed a little more comfortable. 2 days ago she was doing great, jumping on my hand with little hesitation even if the treat wasn't in view. Great progress!

Then yesterday she wouldn't have anything to do with any of that. I was able to get her to nibble on treats thru the cage walls but she was super uncomfortable with my hands in there.

I can't figure out what changed. There was no negative interaction leading up to this. She just woke up yesterday and decided I'm scary?

So... I'm starting over from scratch I guess.

She seemed agitated to get out of the cage yesterday evening so I let her out. I haven't let her fly loose in about a week (trying to get her trained enough I can get her back into the cage and avoid a chase). Despite everything I read online, this bird will not go back to her cage on her own, so I had to towel her to get her back in. I think it was a mistake letting her out tbh.

She doesn't seem any more uncomfortable with me this morning but ugh seems like we've gone all the way back to wild.

Any advice? I fear she's getting bored with millet. She only gets veggies and pellets in the cage, the only seeds are coming out of my hand.

If you want to know why your comment(s) disappeared, inquire within

I was perusing one of the more inflammatory threads today and saw some discussion about mods deleting people's comments and suppressing speech.

First refer to my thread from a few weeks ago on your imagined 1A rights in this sub for a refresher. But that's not what this post is about.

It is absolutely true that mods remove comments in some cases. There are varying reasons for this ranging from behavior that would get you banned to providing incorrect/dangerous legal advice. But it's very common that Reddit's automatic content filtering nukes comments.

The automatic filtering doesn't get things right all the time. I honestly don't know how it works or what all can trigger it. But it definitely removes comments that I would not personally have flagged. In particular, the system does not understand sarcasm.

And unless some kind moderator wanders into the list of deleted comments restores your comment, it stays deleted. Your moderators do exactly that now and then, but I would hazard most of the wrongly deleted comments stay deleted.

So the tl;dr here is:

  • Don't be so quick to blame mods for suppressing your views. We might! But most of the time it's probably not us.
  • If you are polite it's a lot less likely your comments will be removed.

In addition, friendly reminder to be civil. I guarantee no matter what your political affiliation the next 6 months in this country will be absolutely infuriating to all of us, just in different ways. We're all in this together. If you can't be civil, then make sure your comment really nails the other guy, because it might be your last comment in this sub.

Lovebird taming, clip wings or not?

Just got a Fischer’s lovebird yesterday. Shop owner said it’s a female but I think he also thought the peach faced in the same cage were males of the same species 🤦‍♂️. Don’t know for a fact her age but it was a large shop that seems to stock a lot of birds and I’m assuming she’s fairly young. Old enough to look like an adult though.

I’ve been just hanging out next to her cage for now hoping she gets used to me. So far so good.

I watched a few videos. One recommended clipping the wings so they’re more dependent on you when out of the cage and they’ll have to let you pick them up. When I kept birds (had a breeding pair of cocktails and lots of babies) before I always clipped their wings. I kind of like the idea of her being able to fly in general but in the taming phase I guess I’m open to it.

I see other people taming them without clipping the wings. They seem like super smart birds.

Advice, thoughts? My general plan is bribing with treats to get it to interact with me slowly and expecting that takes weeks.

Edit: if you think clipping flight feathers is akin to amputation, please don't feel compelled to respond to this thread. Sheesh.

Minor PSA about auto-moderation and why some legitimate comments get removed

When you think about mods you mostly think about them removing posts, banning people, and being drunk with power. And that's all true.

But I'm going to pull the curtain back a little and tell you that Reddit has automated systems that remove comments and sometimes mods look thru the removed comment list and restore them. I don't know what that looks like to the author of the comment; as far as I'm aware they never know.

Reddit removes comments for a variety of reasons. Sometimes good comments get caught by the harassment filter (it doesn't get sarcasm).

But the surest way to get your comment auto-removed is to include a Google share link like the attached image. This is an auto-remove every time. I looked at the link, it redirects to 988lifeline.org, which is good, well-meaning thing to be posting given the context of that thread.

So the PSA is mainly to not use that type of link. I don't know why so many people are using these Google share links, I can only guess that people are using Gemini more these days and it gives out these type of links. If you want your comment to survive you'll need to go open the link and copy the real URL.

A little clarification on 1A protections in this subreddit

There are none.

But let me elaborate. Frequently we get modmail complaints because someone had their post/comment removed or caught a ban, typically for violating Rule 1, and are under some delusion that their first amendment rights are being violated.

Here's an example from today:

> The ironic thing is 2nd amendment dorks hating the 1st.

For anyone who has actually read the 1st amendment of course this is a nonsensical statement, as the 1A binds the government. It does not keep you from getting thrown out of a bar for being uncivil towards your fellow man. It won't help you here either.

I will give a few of you some very specific advice: when I see a comment that was removed for a Rule 1 violation, I go look at the mod history on that person. If that history is squeaky clean I assume this person just had a bad day and move along. If there's dozens of comments removed for the same reason you can imagine what happens next.

There's really no reason to not be civil. An armed society is supposed to be a polite society, after all. There's no reason to hate on your fellow citizen for the way they vote, the opinions they hold, or the color of their feet.

Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.

N(O)AD — 2007 Peavey Delta Blues 115

Picked this up last weekend. I knew Peaveys had a following, and I knew the Delta Blues was one of the standouts from that brand, but I didn’t know I’d like it this much.

It’s too big and too heavy, but it’s such a great amp. Drive channel steals the show but cleans are great as well. I’m impressed with how well the drive channel works at lower volumes.

Downsides: reverb is best described as “serviceable” and the tremolo doesn’t sound great (or at least I’m not dialing it in right).

Not so gentle reminder to be civil and follow the rules

Hey everyone, happy Friday.

I just got thru going the last few days of comments that had been removed and handed out some short term bans and a few permanent bans.

If you have a short term ban, no need to bother mailing the mods (though you can), think of it as a "go think about what you've done" teachable moment.

If you have a permanent ban, that means you either are problematic from either a legal or toxic point of view and you'll need to find a darker hole to occupy.

Couple more detailed notes:

  • Overt racism -> permanent ban. If this is you, please reconsider why you have racist beliefs.
  • If you think you're being clever getting around Reddit policy by making is sound like a joke, you're not.
  • A few people seem quick to thumb their nose at the mods. You should be equally respectful to both mods and regular users. If you're not respectful to a mod it's a good assumption you're shitty to everyone else and don't need to be here.
  • With political season firing up please take extra care to be respectful. People here may vote in ways you don't agree with, which is actually the entire reason we have voting. If it's not a constructive discussion don't waste your time.

Anywho, this sub is a few people lighter as of this afternoon. Thank you to the vast majority here that contribute positively to our sub. It really is a pretty helpful place and a great resource for Californians.
