Dropping masters course

Hi all, looking for some advice here.

Graduated in summer with a 1st in a comp sci degree. I did better than I expected. I then applied for a masters in advanced comp sci at a top 6 Russell group uni and got accepted. I did it because I didn’t quite feel ready to work, stupid I know.

Now, 2 weeks in, I’m really regretting this. My weak point has always been maths, and the course is very maths heavy. I told myself I could grit my teeth and learn the required math skills, and I’m trying but it’s just too much. Especially considering I’m having to do this catch up at the same time as the modules.

There is work I literally cannot complete at all because I don’t have the required knowledge. I know this is my fault for underestimating the amount required.

So, I’m considering dropping out, or deferring for a year (although I don’t know if they will let me do this, it states that only do deferrals for extenuating circumstances, which mine is not). If I did leave the course, I’d get a part time job, spend a few months polishing my skills and start applying for software dev roles.

If anyone has any advice or their own experiences, please let me know. Thanks ppl

9850X3D vs 9950X

Building a new pc and cannot decide between these 2 CPU’s. I will be doing some gaming on this, which is why I’m leaning towards the X3D. However, I will also be doing a lot of code compilation and multitasking. So I can’t really decide which one to get. I’m thinking if the 9950X isn’t that much slower in gaming, the extra cores are worth it.

How much slower is the 9950X in gaming performance? How much faster is it with productivity work?

Also worth pointing out, I’ll be using a Lian Li A3 mATX case with a 240mm rad for CPU cooling. Is that sufficient for either of these CPUS?

EDIT: I didn’t realise the 9950X3D was only slightly more expensive than these, I was looking at the 9950X3D2 and seeing the huge price tag lol.

Thanks

Old NVME to new hardware build?

So I have a 2TB NVME with full windows 11 install, all my files and steam games etc.

Let’s say I get a completely new PC build and plug that old SSD in, what do I need to change? New mobo, DDR5 and CPU, GPU and so on, can I just plug the old NVME in and just play?

Lost Dog, Cross Mountain

This poor dog (I’m assuming it’s a dog? I’m not from here) stumbled up to our front door about an hour ago. We live in cross mountain. Still hanging around, very thirsty and back right leg is injured.

Hopefully someone recognises him/her, please get in touch.
