Ive been pondering these translation for months now. I have 4 bibles all different translations. When I google it, it usually gives me answers about the difference between “sons of God” and “sons of Israel” however whats most confusing are these translations where it says “number of the gods” and another translation “by the number of Gods angels” So were the nations divided between different humans? Or were they divided by gods? Or angels? Im curious if anyone can give their take on this and how these translations are so very different.
Images 1:NRSV 2: Orthodox study bible 3: Douay Rheims 4: ESV I posted this once before but alas I found another translation which sparked my interest of curiosity again

When I first read 1Samuel 24, I was always confused why God was so angry at David for the census he took. God asked him to get a census, and a lot of the times in the past they counted military aged men and thats what David had Joab do. After this, David felt guilty of his sin from the census and God gave 3 options of punishment where he chose pestilence resulting in the loss of 70,000 men. So I moved on from reading that assuming maybe God was mad for being prideful of his army? Im not sure. Fast forward to 1 Chronicles 21 where it recounts this. However, it says “Then Satan stood against Israel and incited David to number Israel” so many questions now.
The biggest one… was it Gods anger that told David to do the census or was it Satan? Does every time now when the bible mentions the wrath and anger of God was it really just Satan?? This made me question a lot
Why was the census sinful?
Was it because there wasnt a tax like the Lord told Moses in Exodus?
Why was Joab hesitant?
Why punish all of Israel and kill 70,000 because of a census?
#1 is truly my biggest question here but the rest of the questions I keep pondering as well
I did post this on the academic bible but wanted to share here as well

I was always told not to ask their name or try and talk to them other than in prayer. However I just saw a video from a ‘Father Rocky’ explaining how to get your angels name, so im just curious if other Catholics do this?
For background I was born and raised Catholic, and the last 8 months ive been studying the Bible and church history/fathers. I immediately stumbled upon Orthodoxy. I wouldnt consider myself Catholic any more for many reasons, reasons that make more sense with Orthodoxy. One of my struggles lately is venerating/praying to Mary and the Saints which led me down the path of really deep diving into Marian apparitions. Im skeptical about most all of them and was wondering if these apparitions are as popular within Orthodoxy as they are with the RCC. If there are any, do they gain followers and associations and build shrines etc like the RCC will, or do they add any dogmas?
