Will we ever get more firsthand accounts from former IRA members?
I recently finished reading Bandit Country by Toby Harnden, and I was absolutely fascinated by the level of detail it provided. However, it left me frustrated: it feels like a massive amount of historical information and perspective is just being lost to time because former members don't want to speak out.
It really bums me out that the Boston College tapes turned into such a disaster. It seems like that fiasco effectively killed off any remaining trust or willingness for ex-members to participate in oral history projects.
This made me wonder: Do you think it’s likely that former IRA members will write memoirs in the future or authorize accounts to be released? Or is this it?
