Beautifully finished and fully custom-ordered. Selling because the boots are too long for me, I'm going to reorder these same boots in one size smaller.

Insole length: approx. 29.5 cm.

Please check the measurements and information regarding the Fight last on Luosjiet's website carefully before purchasing.

Price €199 OBO/flexible, DM me. Ships from Spain, so keep in mind import fees outside of the EU.

Fit

I'm a US Brannock 10.5E and generally wear US 10 D/E in boots. My Red Wing 875s are a US 10D and fit well in length, although they're a bit narrow.

Because of Luosjiet's size guide I ordered a 44 E. I love the width, but they're way too long. Luosjiet's sizing guide says 44 is approximately a US 10 / Red Wing 10, but these are substantially longer than my 875s. The insole measures approximately 29.5 cm. There's a huge amount of space in front of my toes when I lace them tightly, and when I lace them more loosely, there's also a massive gap at my heel.

I'm now wondering if the Fight Last simply runs very long. After placing my order, I also saw someone on this sub recommend using the EU size from your Red Wing tag rather than Luosjiet's sizing guide, which seems like solid advice that I wish I had seen first. Based on the fit, these feel roughly 1 to possibly 1.5 sizes too long to me. If I ordered again, I'd probably try a 43.

So, at least based on my experience, Luosjiet's sizing guide seems to be off. Hopefully this helps anyone considering an order.

Leather

The Yellow Brown Oiled Cowhide Reverse (Short Hair) is a nice-looking roughout, but it's a bit of a disappointment. I chose it because of the golden/orange-brown color shown in Luosjiet's photos of the TG Escape Boondockers.

The leather I received is much more of a flat, medium brown, with very little of the golden/orange character shown online. I don't blame Luosjiet, as I know how difficult it is to accurately represent leather colors online, but if I reorder, I'll probably go with the Yellow Brown Reverse used on their Classic Paratroopers.

Positives

The finishing is excellent. Everything is very clean, and they nailed all of my custom requests, which I appreciate.

As a cobbler, I prefer a 360° welt, so I'm very happy they accommodated that. The leather midsole looks great, and the XS Ultra Light EVA outsole seems similar in quality to a Vibram Cristy Morflex 4377. There's also a more pronounced heel rise than something like a Dr. Sole 3070, which I prefer.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the build quality, but disappointed with the sizing and leather color.

I took a chance on these and now have a better idea of what I'd change on a future order. I don't have experience with other Luosjiet lasts, so I'd love to hear from anyone with experience with the Fight Last, particularly sizes 43 and 43.5, as I'd ideally like to reorder these boots in a smaller size and different leather.

Leather option most similar to Horween Chromexcel 8

Can someone tell me how the Wine TeaCore Smooth Cowhide leather from Luosjiet compares to Horween Chromexcel 8? I love CXL 8, in particular its soft suppleness, so I would like to find something similar from Luosjiet.
Thanks!

My experience ordering a custom pair of sneakers from Blkbrd Shoemaker

I wanted to share my experience ordering a pair of custom shoes from Blkbrd, particularly because there have been a few issues along the way that I think are worth documenting for anyone considering ordering from them.

For context, I ordered a pair of Roscoe U-Tip Sneakers with black Horween Chromexcel uppers and requested a wider fit.

Ordering and sizing

During the ordering process, Blkbrd asked for my foot measurements, which I provided:

  • Ball girth: 28 cm
  • Instep/mid girth: 26 cm
  • Foot length: 27.7 cm

I also explained that I generally wear a US 10.5, but that I consistently need a wider fit, and specifically suggested that a US 10.5 EE might be appropriate.

I understand that sneaker cupsoles generally only come in full sizes, so I wasn't necessarily expecting a US 10.5 / EU 43.5 to be available. My issue is that Blkbrd never confirmed with me what length they intended to use based on my measurements. Instead, the length appears to have simply been based on the size I selected at checkout.

They have now explained that their US 10.5 corresponds to EU 44, and that they kept the EU 44 length while modifying the last to an EE width across the ball and instep.

This leaves me wondering what the purpose of providing my actual foot measurements was. If the final length was going to be determined simply by my checkout size selection, I don't understand how the 27.7 cm foot-length measurement factored into the decision.

The resulting shoes are unfortunately much too long for me.

I compared the included Blkbrd insole with my unmodified Currex size 44 insole, which is the insole I normally use for most of my sneakers. The Currex measures approximately 285 mm, while the Blkbrd insole measures approximately 295 mm, about 10 mm longer.

My actual foot length is 277 mm. I also compared my foot directly on both insoles, and the Blkbrd insole leaves noticeably more length in front of my toes.

I sent these measurements and photos to Blkbrd and asked them to explain how the length was determined from my measurements.

The leather

When I received the shoes, my first reaction was that the leather didn't look or feel like Horween Chromexcel. I've owned and handled quite a lot of CXL, and the leather on these Blkbrd shoes has a noticeably glossy surface, a somewhat plasticky feel, and behaves differently when compressed.

I also noticed that black pigment transferred onto my fingers simply from handling the shoes. This was something I'd never experienced with the black CXL I've previously owned.

I contacted Blkbrd because I was concerned that the uppers weren't actually CXL.

To their credit, they responded and stated that the uppers are indeed 100% genuine Horween Chromexcel in black. They explained that their finishing team had applied a black pigment-based polish during final burnishing, which they said created the initial shine and temporary color transfer. According to them, this top layer will wear away with regular use and reveal the underlying CXL's waxy finish and pull-up characteristics.

That explanation is plausible and does explain some of what I observed, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on the leather.

Comparison with another custom pair

I also have a custom pair of Goral Boulsover sneakers made to essentially the same specifications, which gives me a useful point of comparison.

Having the two pairs side by side, I find the Goral pair noticeably nicer in terms of overall execution. The Goral uppers are thicker, they have a contrasting tan leather lining, the leather clicking is noticeably cleaner, and the overall level of detail and finishing is finer.

Obviously, this is a subjective comparison, and the two shoes are made by different companies at different price points. I'm not suggesting that the Goral comparison proves anything is wrong with the Blkbrd shoes. I mention it simply because I have another custom pair with essentially the same specifications that I can directly compare them against, and the difference in overall quality is quite noticeable to me.

Communication / resolution

The communication has been fairly slow throughout this process, and at this point Blkbrd has not committed to a specific resolution for the sizing issue.

Their most recent response was:

“If the fit or length still feels off with your orthotics, please let us know so we can make it right for you!”

I responded with the additional measurements and photos explaining why I believe the shoes are too long, but I haven't heard anything further since our last communication.

I haven't worn these shoes other than trying them on, and I'm not planning to wear them because they are simply too long for me. So at this point I'm waiting to see whether Blkbrd will actually take them back or offer some other solution.

If they do take them back and resolve the issue, I'll certainly update this post accordingly. If they don't, I'll likely have to sell them myself. Unfortunately, I don't expect to recover the full cost through a resale, particularly because I've already paid substantial shipping and import costs.

What I actually paid

The original order was:

  • Roscoe U-Tip Sneaker: Rs. 7,800 (€70.58)
  • Horween Leather Co. Chromexcel Black: Rs. 9,200 (€83.25)
  • Shipping: Rs. 2,500 (€22.62)
  • Subtotal: Rs. 19,500 (€176.46)
  • EU import fees: €86.11
  • Total landed cost: €262.57 / $303.72 USD

So although the shoes themselves were relatively inexpensive, I'm currently looking at over €260 all-in for a pair that I don't consider wearable because of the length.

Current status

As of now, I don't want to give a final verdict on Blkbrd because the situation is still unresolved.

I think it's important to give them the opportunity to make this right, and I'll update this post if they do. At the same time, I wanted to document my experience so far because I think the sizing process is worth knowing about if you're considering ordering from them, particularly if you have non-standard width/length requirements.
