A discussion panel titled "What's Different [in Symbolic AI] now" - well, I'll tell you what's not different, apparently
Kind of striking that a discussion about new trends is carried out by five old white guys.
(Symbolic AI is an alternative to neural networks, attempting to solve problems in a more principled way, following logical rules, etc. It's the 'good old-fashioned AI' - a predecessor of current "neural" approaches. Neuro-symbolic AI tries to revive the symbolic approaches and combine them with neural models.)

Should I take my mum with me for dress shopping?
I normally live in a different country, but I'm home for a few weeks at the moment and I'm planning on visiting a few wedding dress salons. I've never been to one yet.
Pretty much all my friends live elsewhere, so my mum is the only person I could potentially take with me. I appreciate the way she approached the topic - asked me if I wanted company, and after my honest response that I don't know (lol), she didn't push any further. She'll be happy to keep me company, but will respect it if I prefer to go alone. I think she wouldn't force her opinion about the dresses on me either, at least not intentionally. On the other hand, I tend to be insecure sometimes, so I might find it difficult to express what I really like and to try on some more crazy designs just for fun if I see that she doesn't share my opinion. Our tastes overlap to some extent, but diverge to some extent too.
I'm also socially a bit awkward, depending on the situation/people. I find it difficult to talk about my budget, too - with my family never having had much financial freedom. I'm worried that my budget won't be enough in some places and, at the same time, that mum will think I'm spending a lot (but she won't say it out loud). I'm honestly not sure which would be more awkward - going with mum or going on my own.
Does anyone have any experience with spacest or similar?
I'm looking to rent a room in Lisbon and they have a lot of options, but apparently they don't do visits before booking because "in-person visits are a thing of the past" or something and they make sure everything is like in the pictures etc. I'm not sure what to think of it. Did anyone have any issues with them?
It took a freaking month for the CTT to deliver this thing
First they got the address wrong, then they wouldn't accept my correction, then the package started circling between three different operational centres and it kept doing so for some weeks. Feast your eyes: http://ctt.pt/t/DS334876568PT
I called them I don't know how many times. They opened a case, they made a complaint, nothing happened. Only me submitting a complaint in Livro de Reclamaçoes got things moving. And still, on Monday I got an email that they couldn't deliver the package because I wasn't at home - except they were supposed to deliver it to their own pickup point, they just tried to do it after its opening hours. I don't know which amazes me more - that or the fact that the tracking website apparently ran out of slots for new status updates; the package has been delivered and I've locked it up, but it shows as stuck in an operational centre since 16th of May. I bet after the 16th it kept circling around, they just stopped updating the status. CTT vs 8-bit numbers 1:0, I guess 🤷🏼♀️
I've just done the bare minimum on a homework for the first time in my life
And I'm not sure how I feel about this. The homework gave us a lot of room to experiment with neural network architectures and parameters, and it was genuinely interesting and useful. I wish all homeworks were like that. The thing is, I'm trying to finish a paper (10 days until submission now and my supervisors need time to read it too) and together with other deadlines across the month, it just drained my energy and didn't leave me with that much time. I still have two hours until the homework submission deadline, I could fix it, add more things, but maybe it's fine to just let go for once? Not sure I can make my stupid perfectionist brain accept that though.
