I see the opposition doing all the wrong things and it’s torture

The democrats are failing completely to meet the moment and counter Trump’s authoritarian project. Everything they do is simultaneously laughably inadequate and horribly misdirected.

What they should do: pick a strong leader - have an early primary and select a leader of the opposition now. Develop a coherent message and build up party discipline so thst everyone is on the same page, consistently pushing the same talking points. Avoid extremism and purity tests. Take Allie’s where they can find them. Rebrand the party to be lowest common denominator stuff; ditch the wokeness, articulate a clear third way on immigration. Above everything, protect the institutions that we still have left, including independent media and the courts (yes, that means scotus).

What they are doing: well they’re swearing a lot more in Twitter posts. And oh, they’re attacking and helping to undermine the Supreme Court, one of the last institutions powerful enough to check Trump, at a time when we need them on our side the most. Uhh that’s about it! Great plan guys

Really important is what they’re *not* doing - no attempt to do a serious post mortem on the last election. No recognition that any internal change whatsoever is needed. No reform of the party or attempt to rebuild bridges that they’ve burned. No unity. No leadership. No direction.

The opposition party is hopelessly divided and hoping they can coast to a bLuE wAvE on the back of trumps unpopularity and a little bit of gerrymandering. I hope they’re right but yeah it’s a little depressing that the republic all rests on something that insubstantial. It’s like nobody understands or has the power to do the things that need to be done. But right now, I really feel like we’re headed towards the bad ending.

This is just a rant, I’m not dooming I’m still going to vote and all that. But the good guys are fucking stupid and that’s just really disappointing sigh

I usually don’t think about specific policies these days since I feel like the Trump era poses more important fundamental issues but I think there’s a solution for abortion that everyone can live with:

***

  1. The (federal) state establishes, based on findings/feedback from a non-partisan commission of experts and other stakeholders, a fixed point at which “life” is legally assigned to a developing fetus

2 This federal definition sets a maximum date, but can be superseded at the state level by earlier dates. So for example, if federal govt may assign life in the second trimester while a state assigns it at some earlier point in development, the state definition would be binding

  1. Abortion is permitted before the binding deadline, but is prohibited after it, with 4 exceptions: (a) rape, (b) incest, (c) threats to the mother’s life, (d) pregnant person is a minor, in which case the abortion can take place until whatever the conventional endpoint is (ie, the latest point you can ethically perform an abortion by even pro-life standards)

***

This should provide objective standards but also respect stated rights and make common sense exceptions. I realize religiously informed people would prefer there be no abortion, but this country is supposed to operate on compromise. Anti-abortion activists could focus their efforts at enacting more restrictive dates at the state level, so they have an outlet at least.

What do you think, is this a good solution? If not, where are the flaws or what should be changed? This seems like such a perennial issue but I feel like it’s not that complicated, maybe I’m wrong

I don’t understand where she came from or why she is hunting the OGs but it was a pretty good set against Ryan Hart. She seems to be just some mystery assassin who shows up at evo events and challenge top players from old eras (this year Ryan Hart, and apparently last year it was Jwong). Shes like Brock lesnaring the fgc. But I have literally 0 other context and the commentators didn’t give much background info
