I’m not understanding the critical reviews of Daughter From Hell. Pitchfork gave this album a 6.2 but Charli XCX a 8.2 for Music, Fashion, Film.
What am I missing? I’m so confused what these critics are seeing?
The songs on this album seem more for close listening rather than immediate pop appeal. For context I’m a 35M listener who actually likes her previous work prior to Secret of Us and I love DFH!! It gets better with time and more listens.
I feel that this album broadens her audience by targeting listeners who appreciate introspective songwriting. I feel the more mature themes and stripped-back style will begin to resonate with more male listeners and older audiences who value thoughtful, narrative-driven music. The catch is that they need to be open to exploring her music!!!
