Xiaomi Watch 2 + GMaps while cycling: screen keeps turning off and map orientation is wrong

Hi everyone, I have a Xiaomi Watch 2 and I use Google Maps while cycling, but I have two issues:

  1. Screen keeps turning off while cycling

When I'm riding my bike and using Google Maps, the watch screen keeps turning off after a while. I have to move my wrist or touch the screen to wake it up again. I've already checked the battery/power settings, and the options related to keeping the screen on are disabled, but the screen still turns off. Is there any way to prevent the screen from turning off while using Google Maps? Maybe a setting, workaround, or alternative app that works better for cycling navigation?

  1. Can I rotate the map orientation?

This is a bit difficult to explain, but the problem is that when I'm cycling straight ahead, my wrist is naturally rotated because of the position of my hand on the handlebars. As a result, when I'm actually cycling straight ahead, Google Maps shows the direction of travel at roughly a 45° angle to the left on the watch screen. I'd like to be able to manually rotate the map by around 45° to compensate for the physical position of my wrist/watch. Basically, I'm not looking to change the navigation direction itself. I just want to rotate the map display independently, so that when I'm cycling straight, it visually looks straight on the watch. Is this possible with Google Maps, or perhaps with another navigation app for Wear OS?

Thanks!

Budget Wear OS watch that can actually run Google Maps + NFC payments — decent battery too?

Looking for a smartwatch recommendation. My main use case: I bike around the city (Barcelona bike-share) and want turn-by-turn Google Maps navigation on my wrist instead of pulling my phone out at every intersection.

Requirements:

Must run real Wear OS (Google) — I know Amazfit/Xiaomi Zepp OS watches can only mirror notifications, not run the actual Maps app with live turn arrows. Needs to be the real thing.

NFC payments (Google Wallet / contactless)

Budget-friendly — not looking to spend Apple Watch / Galaxy Watch Ultra money

Battery life that doesn't suck — I know Wear OS watches are usually 1-2 days, but if there's a model that does better than average, I want to know

Been looking at stuff like the TicWatch Pro 3/E3, Xiaomi Watch 2, and Galaxy Watch FE, but would love to hear from people who've actually used them day to day — especially:

Does GPS navigation on the watch actually work well without the phone right there in your pocket, or does it lag/drain battery fast?

Anyone had good/bad NFC payment experience on these budget models?

Any hidden gem I'm missing that's not on the usual "best Wear OS" listicles?

Android phone, if that matters. Thanks in advance!

KDE/Qt apps (KCalc, Dolphin, etc) broken theming outside Plasma on Niri + Noctalia Shell**

**KDE/Qt apps (KCalc, Dolphin) broken theming outside Plasma on Niri + Noctalia Shell**

Hey, coming from KDE Plasma and recently switched to Niri + Noctalia Shell on Manjaro.

My setup:
- Niri compositor + Noctalia Shell

- Dracula theme (GTK via gsettings, Noctalia generates colors.css for GTK4)

- Kvantum theme: Sweet-transparent-toolbar

- QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt6ct / QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE=kvantum in niri config.kdl

- No qt6ct.conf was present

The problem: KDE/Qt apps like KCalc and Dolphin render with broken colors — either invisible text (dark on dark) or mixed light/dark elements. GTK apps look fine.

Example of KCALC

Example of KRDC

I found this issue https://github.com/niri-wm/niri/discussions/597 but it's not fully resolved.

What's the correct way to get KDE apps to respect a dark color scheme in Niri without Plasma running? Is qt6ct + a KColorScheme the right path? Any recommendations for a Dracula-compatible color scheme for qt6ct?

Is it possible configure all apps selecting only the dracula theme of Noctalia?

thanks

Niri and zoom: I cannot click the toolbar in zoom

Hi, when I use Zoom, I can’t click the buttons.

It feels like there’s a hidden layer in the red area (see image). If I resize it and change the column height to 3/4 or 1/2, it works perfectly.

Do I need to apply a specific rule or something? Any help or workaround would be appreciated.
Thanks!

New user here and some questions

First of all, congratulations! I love the app and it works great.

I have a few questions. I have 9 or 10 add-ons installed. Is this correct?

Also, when I select a movie and go to play it, the add-on tags appear, but for example, when I click on the Torrentsio and Torrentsdb tags, nothing happens. There's no error message or anything. Then, if I go to another tag, it works perfectly. Do I need to download something extra for the torrents tags? Or do I do something different?

Also, can they be played using another player? How?

I'm sorry if these are basic questions.

Thanks :)

Screenshots and RDP problems

Hello,

I recently installed Niri and I'm really enjoying it. I'd love to use it as my daily driver and have everything working smoothly, but I've run into a couple of issues. It seems that every time I try to switch to Wayland, there's always something that doesn't work quite right 😅.

  1. I've always used Flameshot for taking screenshots. Under Niri, when I press Print, the screen seems to "break" for a moment, as if the windows are being rearranged or moved around. Is there any solution for this? Has anyone managed to get Flameshot working properly with Niri?
  2. For work, I need to connect remotely via RDP. I've always used KRDC, I'm very comfortable with it, and it has worked perfectly for me. However, under Niri, when I try to maximize the KRDC window, it doesn't actually maximize. Instead, it stays centered and keeps the width of a single column.

Has anyone else experienced these issues?

Alternatively, would you recommend another window manager/compositor that offers a workflow similar to Niri, is easy to configure, and works better with applications like Flameshot and KRDC?

Thanks a lot!

[Linux + Wayland] Drawings are not visible while sharing my screen

Hi everyone,

Is there any way to get Slack working properly on Wayland?

Everything works perfectly for me except screen sharing. When I'm sharing my screen, I can't see other people's annotations or drawings on the shared screen. On X11, this works perfectly without any issues.

This is literally the only thing preventing me from switching to Wayland full-time, since I need it for work.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there any workaround or fix?

Thanks!

Algo que me recomienden agregar? O sigo por este camino?

Buenas, actualmente tengo invertido 37K distribuidos así:

- 27K Msci World

- 4,5K Emerging Markets

- 4,4K Small Caps

- 1K Oro

Voy a largo plazo obviamente.

Gracias
