Expats in Europe: what part of finding housing is the hardest?
For those who have moved (or are trying to move) to another European country, I’d love to hear how you handled the housing search.
What was most difficult?
- Finding relevant listings when every country seems to use different property portals?
- Understanding local terms, fees, measurements, prices, or neighbourhoods?
- Handling the “access” side: landlord requirements, documents, residency rules, financing, agents, or being accepted as a foreigner?
- Understanding the broader relocation process once you found a property?
Which country were you moving to, and what did you actually use? Did you use property portals, agents, Facebook groups, local contacts, relocation services, government websites, or online guides?
Did you use any housing or relocation guides for the country you moved to? If yes, what was actually helpful, and what was missing?
Would you prefer one place that combines listings, explanations of local terms, and relocation info, or do you usually rely on separate local sites and guides for each country?
For transparency: I’m the founder of Seeki.eu, a pan-European property listing aggregator focused specifically on expats. We’re building tools to make it easier to search across countries and understand listings in a foreign context, and I’m trying to validate whether this is actually useful for people going through the relocation process.
