If You Had to Start Marketing a New Brand Today, What Would You NOT Do?

There’s a lot of marketing advice that made sense a few years ago but feels increasingly outdated now.

If you were launching a brand from scratch today, with everything you’ve learned so far, what would you deliberately avoid?

Would you skip:

  • Chasing high-volume keywords?
  • Posting every day just for the sake of consistency?
  • Spending heavily on ads before understanding the audience?
  • Trying to be everywhere at once?
  • Building content around keywords instead of real customer questions?
  • Focusing on vanity metrics like impressions and followers?
  • Something else?

What’s one marketing tactic you think is overrated in 2026 — and what would you do instead?

If AI recommends your competitor, do you know why?

I've been thinking about AI visibility beyond simple mention tracking.

A brand can appear in an AI answer, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's being recommended. Meanwhile, a competitor might consistently make the shortlist for the exact same prompts.

So instead of only tracking:

  • How often are we mentioned?
  • How many citations do we get?

I'm more interested in:

  • Which prompts recommend us vs. competitors?
  • Which sources are behind those recommendations?
  • What positioning does the AI associate with each brand?
  • Where are we relevant but consistently missing?

Has anyone here actually tracked this at the prompt level over time? What did you find?

This keeps it discussion-first and gives people a reason to share their own experiments rather than turning it into an Amrut promotion.

If You Were Starting AI Visibility From Zero Today, What Would You Do Differently?

AI search is changing quickly, and a lot of the advice around traditional SEO doesn't directly translate to ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and other AI search experiences.

If you had to make a brand visible in AI search from scratch, what would you focus on first?

Would you prioritize:

  • Getting cited by trusted sources
  • Creating content specifically for AI-generated answers
  • Building topical authority
  • Improving brand mentions across Reddit/forums
  • Tracking competitor recommendations
  • Technical things like llms.txt
  • Or something completely different?

Curious what people who are actively working on AEO/GEO are prioritizing right now.

What does “AI Visibility” actually mean in 2026?

AI search is changing how people discover brands.

But “AI Visibility” still seems to mean different things to different people.

Is it:

  • How often your brand is mentioned?
  • Whether AI actually recommends you?
  • Which sources are being cited?
  • How often competitors appear instead?
  • Your Share of Voice across AI platforms?
  • Or the actual context in which AI describes your brand?

For me, the interesting part is that being mentioned isn't necessarily the same as being visible in a meaningful way.

A brand could be mentioned once but consistently recommended by AI — while another could appear frequently without actually being recommended.

Curious how everyone here defines AI Visibility and what you're currently measuring.

What's the one metric you'd want to track if you could only choose one?

Are we measuring AI visibility the wrong way?

With traditional search, you can look at rankings and get a relatively clear picture of where a page appears.

AI search feels different.

The same prompt can produce different answers, different brands, different citations — even when you run it more than once.

So I'm curious what people are actually tracking:

1. Brand mentions
2. Citations / sources
3. How often you're recommended
4. Competitor mentions
5. Share of voice across prompts
6. Something else entirely

If you had to pick one metric to represent AI visibility, what would it be — and why?

What if AI visibility isn't the metric you should be watching?

Most AEO/GEO tools can tell you:

→ Are you mentioned?
→ How often?
→ Which competitors appear?
→ Which sources get cited?

But the bigger question is:

Why is AI recommending them instead of you?

What would you want to see first in an AI visibility dashboard?

A) Brand mentions
B) Competitor visibility
C) Citation sources
D) Why your competitor is being recommended

What’s the point of ranking #1 if AI recommends your competitor?

SEO tells you where you rank.

But when someone asks AI for a recommendation, your competitor might be the one getting mentioned, cited, or recommended.

That’s the gap AI Visibility is starting to measure.

At Amrut AI, we’re exploring what happens beyond traditional rankings.

Do you think AI recommendations will become as important as Google rankings?

SEO Is Evolving. Are You Ready for AEO & GEO?

For years, winning search meant ranking higher on Google.

Now someone can ask an AI:

"What's the best [product/service]?"

And the answer might mention your competitor instead of you.

Even if you rank above them on Google.

That's why the SEO conversation is expanding.

SEO helps you get found.

AEO focuses on becoming the answer.

GEO focuses on visibility in AI-generated responses.

At Amrut AI, we're exploring how these three are starting to overlap.

Because the future of search may not just be about:

"Where do I rank?"

It may also be about:

"Does AI know my brand exists?"

Are you tracking AI visibility yet?
