ISO Shoe Advice - November Danube Sailing

Hello! I am booked on a mid-November sailing from Budapest to Vilshofen on AmaWaterways. I’ve been to Europe many times (including in the fall) and have been on a Rhine River cruise before, but for some reason SHOES are really flummoxing me on this packing list!!

I will bring a pair of supportive tennis shoes for the long walking days, and a pair of dressy sandals to be used for all dinners. Where I am stumped is - what if it rains?? I can’t decide if I should buy a pair of waterproof boots, bring a second pair of tennis shoes, or what I should do.

I’m leaning towards a pair of waterproof boots because there is nothing more rotten than getting stuck with wet shoes. How have others dealt with this on your fall cruises where there’s a higher possibility of rain??

Also open to recommendations for waterproof shoes, if you have some you love! They must be supportive and comfortable, I’ve dealt with plantar fasciitis in the past and would like to keep that in the past!

Help Me Name My Kitten!

I recently adopted this adorable gray stripey boy! His name is currently Sterling, but I’m not sure I’m sold on it and have been calling him friend or grayboi until I think of something better. A lot of my prior cats have had people names - I know Sterling would qualify, I think I might prefer something that could have nicknames too. I am also open to something ridiculous like Crunchwrap Supreme, as long as there’s nickname potential!

He is very sweet and constantly purring, he is curious, a little bit hesitant about my dog (Kale) but holds his ground and isn’t afraid to unleash some smacks if needed. He loves to play with and then cuddle his kitten sister from another mister, Penny (brown girl in the third pic).

Prior male pets/names off the table: Carl, George, Toby, Bouncer, Patches, OJ, Rocky, Zoom, Bandit, Winston, Steve.

La Madeleine

I remain iffy on La Madeleine although this bag is better than my only other prior bag from them. Maybe I need to recalibrate my expectations but I keep hoping for more savory items or like quiche or soup or salad.

-Chicken Friand (they didn’t give me the sauce) -Chocolate Almond croissant -Pistachio chocolate dip croissant -Oatmeal Raisin Pecan cookie -Ham & Cheese Pastry

I have had the ham & cheese and chocolate almond croissant before and really like those. Was pleasantly surprised by the oatmeal cookie as that’s normally one of my least favorite flavors but it was really good!

My only other La Mad order included a chicken friand (with sauce), small Caesar salad, apple turnover, and chocolate almond croissant. I also asked to buy the ham & cheese pastry and she nicely just said I could have it, so I felt that helped with the value.

What do others typically receive from La Madeleine?

Whole Foods Specialty Bag

Pretty happy with this bag!

-Brie ($8.11) -Emmentaler ($8.61) -Grated Parmesan ($5.50) -Kite Hill Mushroom Ravioli ($10.79? This feels insane but that’s what is on the website!)

I think I am going to cook some ground sausage and mix the ravioli in with it and a tomato sauce!

Tuesday’s Storm

Has anyone seen any reports on how strong the winds were during the storm Tuesday afternoon? I sustained some fence and garage damage and am curious. I was in my house at the time and it sure was whistling and whipping through my backyard!

I saw one article from before the storm that predicted gusts of up to 50 mph but I’m wondering what was actually logged!
