Film club suggestions- East and South East Asian history month

Hello, I run a film club for older adults. They are from 60-100 years old and are of mixed ability and cognition. This is an inclusive group, so 2 or 3 live with dementia.

There are some parameters that the films need to fit into:

♡ About 1h 40 or less

♡ Not too sweary, sexy or violent (I usually go to a 12 rating max) (this is to keep in mind access and members with dementia).

♡ Mostly in English or minimal subtitles, (due to ability to read/speed of having to read)

For more challenging watches we have seperate events. This month's theme is East and South East Asian history month. I have a few films I'm considering but I thought I'd ask for suggestions to see if there are any better suggestions. I always make a short list of about 5 and then put them to the vote. So far my ideas are:

The Farewell (but I thinknit had too much Mandarin)

An animal option as we can get a dubbed version

Tigertail. I've not seen it so need to check out the language ratios.

Yellow Rose

The Weeping Camel

Ilo Ilo

Thanks in advance!

Skill/interest exchange

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a photography skill exchange?

I'd really like to learn how to use a camera and get beyond just taking pictures on my phone. (Or even taking better photos on my phone). I'm interested in learning the basics, things like understanding camera settings, when to use different modes, how lenses work, and how to take better photos in general.

I've looked at classes, but money is quite tight at the moment. I know there are lots of YouTube videos out there, but I learn much better through conversation, being shown things in person, and having someone I can ask questions.

I don't currently own a camera, so ideally I'd love to meet up and learn on yours while I figure out whether photography is something I want to invest in longer term.

In exchange, I'd be happy to offer something back. Maybe:

* Polish and/or Enlish language conversation/cultural exchange * Cooking or baking (I'm vegan and happy to make food for you to take home) * Walking/photo buddy

* Help with a project * Or something else if there's something useful I can offer

I'm based in Lewisham/Deptford and would be happy to meet for a walk, coffee, photo wander, or similar.

Feel free to comment or send me a message.

[16/05/26] Eurovision

For the first time ever I’ve found myself without people to watch Eurovision with 😭

Usually I host a few friends, everyone brings a European dish/snacks/drinks, and we watch with a scorecard I make. I can’t imagine it being fun alone, so I thought I’d see if anyone here fancied getting together somewhere to watch?

Would especially love people who enjoy the chaos of scoring, commentary, costumes, dramatic reactions etc. Also open to suggestions for venues around London.

I know some people feel strongly about boycotting because of Israel’s participation, and I completely understand/sympathise with that perspective. I’m personally conflicted — I usually stream it unofficially so I’m not financially contributing to the event, and I also think there are more effective forms of action — but absolutely no judgement either way, just wanted to mention.

(Also not sure inviting total strangers to my flat is peak internet safety so probably thinking public venue first 😂)

I'm Lewisham/Greenwich based but obvs can travel!

36F btw.
