This was quite a challenging, but fun build.

While most steps were laid out as clearly as in modern sets, some mirror symmetric steps were not explained at all, only the needed parts and how it should look afterwards. But one step was just a few dozen parts added without listing them or explaining this all together. Figuring this out felt a bit daunting at first, but was doable with a systematic approach and a very rewarding experience. Now I know, why people praise the challenge of the older sets.

The handle on the left side moves the searchlight, the wheel in the middle both rotors (they are connected by an axle) and the right one opens or closes the rear for loading the car.

Some curiousities: This set has both studless and studded beams, really feels like a product of changing times.

Next I'll build the 42038.

I still do remember the first launch of Ingeniuity on Mars a few years ago and I always like space as a kid, so I was quite looking forward to this set.

The build was a lot of fun, but way faster, than I had expected (~10 hours). The mechanical functions are great as well: You can turn the sensor arm as well as lift and lower it by turning knobs at the rovers rear end. The six wheels can be turned in several directions and also move independently.

I almost immediately motorised the arm functions, as it takes a lot of turns of the knobs and time manually. The battery box, motors and remote are taken from my Mould King 17018 Pneumatic All Terrain excavator, which I build over several weekends in May and June.

All in all, fun to build and fun to play with, I didn't try out the AR app. Which sets would you recommend next? I currently have 4038 (Artic truck) and either 9396 or 42145 (both helicopters, still couldn't decide between those two yet) on my wishlist.
