New author - almost published!!

Hi!! I'm new to the publishing world. Always been a writer, but to me, you gotta be published to call yourself an author! (I dunno if anyone else has this distinction in their mind!) Well, my memoir is coming out in Sept and I am getting nervous.

I just had a random instagram biz celebrity with a big following tell me, essentially, "You're 40 years old and not even famous....you have no business writing a memoir." Feeling a little deflated and also gassed up!!!

It's called "Aneela, Where Are Your Eyebrows?" and shares my story of growing up with compulsive hair pulling disorder (trichotillomania) and my recovery, starting a business to help others and my journey with cancer.

I know I wrote it to help others feel seen and yet, the fear of being seen myself!!!
Anyone else get nervous like this? Of "What will people think?" once the book is out!?

UPDATE: Book Cover Poll -- CHOSEN!!! for "Aneela, Where Are Your Eyebrows?"

Hi all!!! We chose a cover!!!

this is the one we chose!

and THANK YOU to everyone who provided input -- especially about the name legibility -- the publisher fixed it after this pic was taken!!

i am getting so nervous and excited for this new "baby" to be in the world!

It is truly my hope that this journey will help others understand hair pulling, skin picking, trichotillomania, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) and meet us with more compassion and love.

AND That we all learn to do the same for ourselves and others.

if you are interested in reading the first chapter, you can grab it at www.habitaware.com/memoir

Immense gratitude for your help!! LET'S PUT BFRBS on the "mental health" map!!!

want to help with research?

Test a New Digital Treatment for Trichotillomania

In collaboration with Dr. Christopher Flessner at Kent State University, HabitAware was awarded an NIH research grant to develop and test a digital treatment for hair pulling that includes a wearable device and mobile app.

Now we need your help!

If you live with trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder), you may be eligible to participate in a research study to test one of two digital treatments over 12 weeks.

You must be 18+ years old, live in the U.S., and own an iPhone. You must not have used HabitAware’s Keen2 device within the past 24 months. You must not currently be in therapy for trichotillomania.

help me choose the memoir cover!

Hey community!

if you know me, you know I'm passionate about raising awareness of hair pulling, skin picking and other Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors.

I've worked tirelessly the last 6 years - to write my story New Harbinger Publications.

It took a lot out of me to go back to painful moments - and in between I had to pause to meet my moment with breast cancer.

- but I know this memoir, "Aneela, Where are Your Eyebrows?" is more than my story.

I hid my hair pulling for 20+ years and its only in being caught and sharing my pain with others that I realized the secret makes us sick.

20 years of being silent and now its the flipside... nearly a decade of shouting it on roof tops because I know that when I can share my story of hurting in hiding someone in the room feels seen.

I've worked tirelessly the last 6 years - to write my story with New Harbinger Publications.

This memoir is for everyone who's ever been pulled down by hair pulling, skin picking, nail biting.

Or been pulled down by bullying, or cancer, or their own mind.

And its for anyone who wants to find a way back up.

In this book I share my deepest fears and hopes.

In sharing my journey, my greatest hope is that the acronym "BFRBs" will be just as identifiable to our outer communities as "OCD" or "GAD" or "Diabetes."

It will be out this Fall, and I'm hoping you can support now by providing input on the book cover.

Thank you!!!
