Your favourite parts of Season 8

Season 8 understandably gets a lot of criticism for how dragged out the Negan arc is and other decisions with the story/plot.

I am currently rewatching it and agree it watches like filler and feels very slow sometimes. To make it more enjoyabale, I wanna take notice of all the things you loved about Season 8.

From specific storylines to scenes and moments, or even just some really cool shots, what did you love about Season 8?

I'll start:

I appreciate Jesus keeping the saviors hostage because he understands that what they're fighting for is NOT revenge, but freedom and a more peaceful future.

Hot take: dog ownership in Dubai

The other day I was driving through my area at around noon and I saw a couple walking their fully coated brown and white malamute dog on the gravel. Imagine putting on your thickest winter jacket and walking barefoot on the street at noon in the middle of summer in Dubai...that poor dog must've been suffering...

How do people consciously buy dogs that were bred for the coldest regions of the world and force them to live in the hottest region in the world. I can't help but think that the people that do this are selfish af. If you own a winter breed dog, e.g. samoyed, husky, malamute etc., genuinely, why would you chose that breed? It's cruel...

Does it get better

ADHD-inattentive, 30F.

About 3 weeks ago I started taking atomoxetine 80mg again. I first started it in 2022 and it was immensely helpful with my studies and general life management. I was taking sertraline 100mg at the same time but slowly weaned off it as I felt the atomoxetine was enough to manage my mental health struggles. Things were mostly good as far as I can remember.

I stopped taking it end of 2022 as I moved countries and where I lived it was too expensive and I had no money. However I went back on sertraline (50mg) around 2024, as life started to get difficult again, and ever since I've basically been dependent on it for managing my extreme emotional disregulation - anger, depressed, anxiety, OCD. I have trauma, possible ASD and I'm in a living situation where I am constantly exposed to emotional and sensory triggers on a daily basis. At the moment I'm stuck in this situation but I am working slowly to get out of it.

Now, i'm more financially stable and so I'm back on 80mg atomoxetine (started on 40mg for one week before going full dose), and as of last Friday, weaned off 50mg sertraline as per psychiatrist's instructions over a 2 week period.

My hope/expectation was that it would be a smooth transition, but the combined side effects of atomoxetine and withdrawal symptoms of sertraline has me feeling the worst I've probably ever felt mentally and physically, despite technically being "healthy". I barely feel the benefits of anything, I feel like everything is just worse. I can't sleep well, I'm nauseous or gassy all day, i feel this constant physical dread, I feel hopeless about everything, and I feel physically tired and weak all the time, brain zaps, dizziness, palpitations, and anger. So much anger. It was always the trait I struggled with most because once something triggers me, I just cannot calm down. I don't get violent or cruel, I just get so unbelievably frustrated my mood is ruined all day and honestly it burns me out. I wish I could have some kind of physical outlet like boxing, but I feel so tired and weak all the time.

The other night when I couldn't sleep I got so depressed and cried all night. I should note my seasonal depression is also summer so it's been extra hard.

I know every experience is unique and I'll definitely talk to my psychiatrist in a couple weeks about all this as well, but until then, can anyone please tell me if what I'm experiencing sounds normal. Can anyone give me some hope that things will get better and my body will adjust to all these chemical changes.

Thanks in advance.

The point is that it's unfair.

I see a lot of posts about the waste of potential characters and characters that shouldn't have died. In some cases, it is indeed questionable writing choices that stray from the comics, e.g. Sophia, Carl, Jesus. In other cases, it's world building. I totally get the sentiments shared in this reddit thread, especially when stories move us to start caring about characters and getting excited to see their growth. But hear me out.

TWD isn't simply a story about humans vs zombies and definitely not about good people prevailing over evil people. Its nuance is in the moral grey, in the various dilemmas characters face, in coping with PTSD and violence, and in religious beliefs. All of this builds into a world that reminds us that being pure and good doesn't guarantee that you're going to survive. Whether it's by accident, murder, or zombies, I believe this is one of the longstanding themes of the series. There's a line from the show im gonna paraphrase and idr who says it but they're part of Ricks group, "are we still the good guys?" after reflecting on everything they had done up to that point. Who really "deserves" to live or die is a major theme of the show generally.

Overall, untimely and tragic deaths of loved characters are sad, shocking, and often disappointing, but in my opinion, sometimes it makes for more engaging storytelling that represents all the intricacies of being human. It's why I love the show!

Airconditioned work/chill spaces in town?

Can you recommend some places in city center with air-conditioning to do some work, hang out, grab food/drink. Preferably for long period of time - morning to late afternoon.

How long do you tend to wait to let a student you've cold-called answer a question?

I realise how much my patience and empathy has improved now that I've almost completed my PGCE just from the act of giving my students time to think or formulate theirs answers when they've been cold-called. Sometimes I watch them panic but persevere in what must be a very anxiety inducing (at least for me, even now) situation to be in.
