Does this tool take CPP contributions into account?

I’m shopping around for which retirement modelling tool I should use for myself.

One of the things I need is for CPP to be 1) accurate with my current contributions that are in the service Canada website and 2) for it to take into account gaps. For example, if I retire at 50, my CPP contributions will cease and then my CPP monthly cheque will be lower. If I retire at 65, my CPP contributions will be higher, and my month will be higher.
As an immigrant I also only started contributing a few years ago.

Does this tool take that into account?
Thanks!

Should I plan for a reverse mortgage?

Edit: childfree couple, forever

Everywhere I read, reverse mortgages are described as predatory, awful deals etc.

But what is the alternative?

I’m planning for retirement, I’ll have enough money invested, I’ll have cpp, oas, etc. This isn’t a “poor senior desperately needs cash”.

This is a “if I can count on an extra x dollars that I pull out of my house equity, this affects my retirement planning and I can retire earlier”.

“Just sell the house and downsize” I don’t want to leave my house. I spent decades making it perfect for us. I want to die in my house.

So what’s the alternative? Between getting 55% of the equity out and getting 0% of the equity out, 55 sounds better no?

I just don’t understand what else I’m supposed to do aside from a reverse mortgage.

Need advice: talk me into/out of buying a car

Hi guys! We are a couple (HHI 600ish Networth 900kish), no house, no kids, no pets. Will not have either. We’ve only been HENRY for 2 years. We live downtown in a VERY walkable HCOL city (edit: not NYC + we have a parking spot for our unit). We can take public transit pretty much everywhere. I’m fully remote, she has a pleasant 30min walking commute.

There is no daily reason we need a car.

We love road trips, her parents live 3hrs away, and sometimes we need to go to a mall or a store to buy a bunch of stuff. We use Ubers for mall/errands when we have things to carry, and also for date night because public transit is a bit dingy.

We currently rent cars through apps. I already crunched the numbers, it makes ZERO financial sense to buy a car. The math doesn’t math. We spend maybe 300-500 a month on car rentals/ubers/gas. My insurance alone would cost 300-400/month (never insured before so premiums are high). Not to mention gas, maintenance and the car itself.

Why we want a car: the hassle of finding a nearby car to rent can be annoying. It doesn’t allow for spontaneous trips, we’ve had owners no show and we were left stranded before, we’ve gotten incredibly dirty car shares, and sometimes we have to cut a trip short because we’re getting late to return the rental at the correct time. We also need to walk to/from the rental pickup location which takes 1hr on usual.

This could not be more of a first world problem. We are only considering this because we’re HENRY.

In our position what would you do? Is convenience really worth 30k?

TLDR: buying a car makes no financial sense, but we’re getting tired of the rental hassle.

Where do I go to buy a used car?

New to Canada/toronto. Never bought a car here before. Don’t want to get scammed. Am trying to get something safe and reliable, was thinking a 3-4yr old Corolla. Looking to spend under 25k cash.

What’s the best place? My biggest fear is buying a used car and then it having a bunch of hidden issues. But I don’t want a brand new car because I have zero Canadian insurance history and my insurance numbers are gonna be wild on a new car.

Looking for Maldives waters in the Caribbean

Our honeymoon is September next year (I know it’s hurricane season, we’re gonna get travel insurance and reschedule if needed).

We’re looking for a place in the Caribbean (don’t want a 20+ hr flight to Maldives/bali/etc) that has pristine, clear, beautiful blue water.

We’ve been to a few all inclusive, all in the Excellence brand and we love that level of luxury/quiet/calm. We’ve don’t like parties, loud music or young crowds + we go to bed at 9pm. We’re not foodies, we’re happy with Excellence food.

Was looking at Excellence Oyster Bay, it’s almost perfect but the beach has so much seagrass.

Also: sargassum is 10000000000% a deal breaker.
Also must be adults only!!! This is a must.

Any thoughts?

Budget is max 1500 usd per couple per night.

So confused about whether I need an appointment

I’m Canadian. Applied for NEXUS. Got conditional approval. Then I got an email saying that I can do the interview without scheduling, at the border.

I’m flying to the US in one month from Toronto YYZ. So does this mean I can just walk in and do the interview?

I heard that it needed to be scheduled and that it’s very hard to get a scheduled interview so I’m very confused why it’s so easy all of a sudden. Seems too good to be true. What am I missing?

September Tropical Destination

We’re getting married mid September and want to fly out a couple days after the wedding. The problem is: tropical destinations are in hurricane season.

We do an all inclusive (Excellence in the DR) every year, so it no longer fees special. But we thought it would be nice to get a nicer upgraded all inclusive, do excursions, snorkeling, nicer property, business class etc.

We looked into Aruba/Curacao but everyone seems to hate the AI there. We also looked into Fiji/Maldives/Polynesia but seems out of budget.

Is there a way out? Or we have to push the honeymoon out of hurricane season?

Budget: 30k CAD/20k US including flights. Fly out of Toronto. If overnight flight would need to be premium economy minimum, business class preferred. If close by, would be business class.

Impossible budget? Impossible season?
