Just a small life bummer post

This is only working mom adjacent really, but I have nowhere else to put this and I know y’all will understand!

Two working parent household, I’m a teacher so the school year is wonderful but exhausting. One 3 year old boy who is also wonderful but exhausting 😂 We are very fortunate to have enough disposable income where we can enjoy taking our little guy out to dinner a couple of times a week. Nothing fancy, fast food or our local Tex-Mex favorite- just something we don’t have to cook, a break from the routine, and a fun reason to get out of the house and do something different.

Then a few months ago, my son and I both got diagnosed with celiac disease. A crumb of gluten will damage our intestines and provoke severe symptoms in my little guy (me less so, which is how I went undiagnosed for so long). I was determined to find safe restaurants but I just… can’t. I’ve tried so many that say they’re safe, I test to see if I have a reaction before risking it on him, and I keep getting glutened.

So now, the one time saver everyone suggests for working parents (just do takeout!) is out and we’re cooking every night. No more fun Saturday night enchiladas with our best little restaurant buddy. No more midweek pasta takeout when we’re exhausted. It’s really hard. I know we are so lucky because our health issues could be so much worse!! But I’m just sad and needed a safe place to have a pity party for a minute. Thanks for joining me 😅

If your child is withholding poop:

PLEASE do not push them in potty training to the point where they become constipated. It can turn into encopresis very quickly, and then you’re in for a world of misery. My son experienced this for months, not due to potty training but due to an autoimmune disorder, and I wouldn’t wish the pain, discomfort, misery, and anxiety surrounding it on my worst enemy. I see people talking about withholding and constipation on this sub constantly, and let me be the one to tell you that potty training is NOT a reason to put yourself and your child through that. That’s my PSA.

Anyone having issues with Van’s Waffles right now?

My kiddo was diagnosed celiac about 2 months ago and has been doing amazing. I found Van’s waffles and was so excited because he used to love blueberry waffles. He’s been eating them for a week and I just connected it to him suddenly being symptomatic with bad constipation again- it’s the only food we’ve changed. At first I wondered if it was the rice flour since I know too much rice can cause constipation, but then I started googling and saw they’ve had two recalls for accidental glutening and now I’m panicking. Has anyone else had issues recently?

Similar non-pill birth control to Lo Loestrin?

Hi all! I have been on Lo Loestrin Fe for a decade and it is perfect for me. No side effects and prevented pregnancy until I decided to have a child. Had my baby, got back on my medicine, found out I have severe celiac disease and I am likely not absorbing the full dose of medication. I am not in a position to have another child right now, so it’s very important to me that I find a birth control method that works.

So I’m trying to figure out which non-pill alternative would be closest hormonally to Lo Loestrin. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much!
