Best rally title for Steam Deck that is not EA?

Hi guys,

what would you consider the best rally title for Steam Deck?

Interested in decent story mode and progression. Fun gameplay with realistic locations.

Don't care about current state of online gaming and don't care about simulation, I have RBR HU for that.

I also already have Dirt and Dirt 2.0, but am not interested in newer EA offerings.

Looking mostly at WRC titles pre-EA, but will consider any other suggestions if you have them.

Thank you.

Edit: landed on WRC Generations and will also be picking Art of Rally and Super Woden Rally.

Mourning dove, hawk attack victim. Injured eye. SE MI

Hello,

Most likely a coopers attack victim. I would not interfere but blue jays chased hawk away and I found this one on the ground. The only visible injury I could see is a bleeding, most likely missing eye.

Bird survived the night in the box.

Called rehab (same as in another recent Michigan dove post) and they advised to euthanize bird due to eye injury.

What are my options?

Thank you.

Edit: there is also something else is wrong with her. She is moving but head is kind of crooked to the side and she struggles to keep balance and uses wings to balance.

Could be euthanasia is the only option.

Comparison of Panasonic 100-500 f5-7.1 and Sigma 500 f5.6 by a hobbyist who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Hi guys. I had a chance to compare these two lens and thought it would be useful to share with community. Obviously, everything is subjective and other people use cases might be different. Spoiler: >!I sent Panasonic 100-500 back and kept Sigma!<.

To my knowledge, there is nothing like this on the market with notable exceptions of Nikkor Z 600mm F6.3 VR S at $4k comparable to Sigma and Canon RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM at $3k comparable to Panasonic. Both alternatives are $1k more expensive and only available on Canikon platforms.

Things I liked about Panasonic, from favorite to less favorite:

  • near macro at 500mm. Was really nice and useful feature producing great results.
  • Dual IS was incredible
  • compact size when collapsed

Things I didn't like about Panasonic, in no particular order:

  • slow aperture. Only 2/3 stops slower than Sigma at tele, but when you factor in that you have to stop it down to achieve acceptable sharpness and the fact that I usually take pics in dense canopy forests in the evenings(subjective use case, I know) this becomes a big problem.
  • Telescoping zoom. It was awkward to operate and it felt a bit dry. Hard to explain, but the movement wasn't smooth. Also, since I only use 500 end, it ended up being larger than Sigma in practical situations.
  • Build quality. Was just OK, expected better from $2k lens. Rubber coatings on zoom and focus rings attract dust and cling to it.
  • Optical quality. Again, expected more from lens in this price range.
  • is designed to be used with teleconverters. But even with x1.4 it becomes unusable in many of my use cases. An F11 lens(when you stop it down for sharpness) is hard to use anywhere but in the perfectly lit open spaces. And it felt like TC was magnifying all the flaws of the lens.

Things I like about Sigma:

  • optical quality. I can go on and on. It produces perfect results wide open. I never stop it down. I like the color rendering and subject separation. It creates nice subtle 3d effect.
  • build quality. It feels better built than Panasonic and better balanced when carried by the foot collar. No telescoping and no zoom adds to overall package.
  • focus speed seems on par to Panasonic due to linear motors
  • OIS is very impressive. Chipmunk picture was taken handheld at 1/50 ss. Not as impressive as Panasonic Dual IS, but still very good. And looks like both ois and ibis are working in tandem, just not as effectively as native Dual IS
  • Size. It is very compact for what it is and not obnoxiously big. Perfect balance between size and aperture speed. An F4 alternative is two probably 2 times bigger and heavier.
  • Made in Japan. Yes it matters to me.

Overall, 100-500 just didn't feel like a keeper to me. I used to have Panasonic Leica 100-400 mk1 back in my m43 days and that thing was better in every way. Honestly, at $2k I would rather pick used G9II and Panaleica 100-400 combo and will be a much happier person.

All the pics are unedited and taken with Sigma 500 and S5II combo. Except for chipmunk taken with Sigma and S1II. And monitor lizard was taken with S5II and Panasonic 100-500.

Imgur gallery for those interested, because reddit destroys pics: https://imgur.com/gallery/Ml0PsUr

Pics of size comparison both collapsed/extended/hood on-off at the end.

Edit: I just remembered I used to have m43 Panasonic 100-300 retailing around $500. And honestly, I liked it more than 100-500. Build quality was on par or better. Optical quality was right on point in that price range. So you can have a brand new m43 setup with g9ii and 100-300 around the price of 100-500.

Lumix S5II and Sigma 500mm f5.6

First outing with my new Sigma 500mm f5.6. I am absolutely in love with this lens. It became my most favorite lens of all time(my previous favorite was Panasonic Leica 100-400 on m43)
I ordered Panasonic 100-500 first but wasn't happy with it so it is going back.
All shots are unedited, came straight from the camera.

Imgur link since reddit is butchering images.

I think Nier: Automata ruined me. I can't find a game that would really keep me engaged after finishing this one. Will still seek suggestions.

I have actually been ignoring Automata for a long time because all the praising and reviews didn't really touch me in any way. Until one day I decided to try Nier: Replicant and was immediately immersed in its package: storytelling, visuals and music. After that Automata was next and what a game it was.

Funny thing is, I am not a fan of some of its mechanics, like bullet hell, flying suits or hacking mini games. By the package as a whole with idea, story, music and visuals made it my absolute top 3. And since finishing it I can't find any game that would interest me to the point I finish it.

My other favorites are:

Mass Effect trilogy
Max Payne 1-2
Bioshock series
Deus Ex series
Metro series
Stalker series
Witcher series
Baldurs Gate 1-2
Final Fantasy XII
Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel
KOTOR
Mafia series
GTA series
Dark Souls 1

Some games I liked but am struggling to finish:
FFVII OG and Remake/Rebirth
FFX, FFVI, FFXVI
Chrono Trigger
System Shock
anything Bethesda
Baldurs Gate 3
Expedition 33
Persona 5
Planescape Torment
Disco Elysium
Elden Ring

I value most perfect story and relatable main characters and/or party and interactions between them.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks to this community for suggestions. First day with my new Panasonic 100-500 f5-7.1

Choice hell is over, just got my new 100-500 and, boy, this is a chonky lens. Me coming from m43 Panaleica 100-400 I am impressed. Can't even imagine what my other contender Sigma 60-600 would feel. My other lens are very compact Sigma 45 f2.8 and various compact vintage manuals.

Just got first few test images out. Obviously I have no idea what I am doing but I plan to improve and learn this system properly.

Love near macro capabilities of this thing. Cant wait to have some fun pics and footage of insects and spiders in my collection.

Pics have minor corrections in Photomator. All pics are at 500mm f7.1

(L-Mount) Sigma 60-600 or Panasonic 100-500 for handheld bird/wildlife/motorsports?

Hi guys,

Trying to choose between Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS and LUMIX S Series 100-500mm F5-F7.1 L

They both have linear AF motors. They both have great stabilization with Panasonic having an edge there. And they are both about $2k retail.

This is where similarities end.

Sigma: has more reach and more wide end. Also wider aperture. Solid macro option. It seems to have better build quality as well(schematic attached). And on picture samples and reviews it seems to have better optical quality and is sharper. Which is surprising given this is a x10 superzoom. I also like its color rendering. Something about sample pics on this Sigma feels better than Panasonic(this is not a scientific observation). Is an absolute CHONK of a unit at 2.5 kilos(twice the Panny) and is nose heavy.

Panasonic: small and light. Better IS, easier to handheld. Better for video. Draws less attention from public.

Intended use: casual bird/wildlife/motorsports handheld photography. Parks, zoos, nothing crazy. Some video. Travel by car or by plane with checked in baggage. I am physically active and lift weights if that makes difference. Third picture of a Coopers hawk taken with G9 and Panasonic Leica 100-400(200-800 FF equiv) is an example of what I am looking for.

The only user feedback I could find comparing these two is on B&H reviews for both lens by the same user(Clay), who wasn't impressed by 100-500. And I do understand it is not scientific and could be just bad unit for him. The rest is just influencers hyping up both lenses.

Edit: mounting to S5II body

Edit2: I did have G9 and 100-400 but quit m43 and moved to FF. Wasn't really interested in full sized bodies in m43 and Panasonic refuses to make modern compact ones.

Sigma 60-600 or Panasonic 100-500 for handheld wildlife

Hi guys, me again following to this post.

A lot of people suggested Sigma 150-600 in that post which I was conflicted about due to its slower AF and worse OIS. Actual optical quality of that lens based on what I seen in the reviews and user feedback is superb.

While digging in that direction I learned that Sigma has newer and even heavier 60-600 option. So I started to compare it to Panasonic 100-500.

They both have linear AF motors. They both have great stabilization with Panasonic obviously having an edge there by being native. And they are both about $2k retail.

This is where similarities end.

Ksyusha, this is hinoki cutting board, not a butt warmer

So she sat the first time, I didn't have it, chased her away, flipped the board to other side only to find her exactly like this 5 minutes later.
