should i take BIOL 102/3 or BIOL 212?

Hello! I'm a first year BHSc student trying to choose my courses.

In order to fulfill the lab prerequisite at UOttawa med, I'm planning to take either BIOL 102/3 or 212. I originally wanted to use my AP Biology score as transfer credit for BIOL 102/3, but it's hard to find another course with a lab component besides BIOL 212.

I'm open to suggestions for other courses with labs! I currently plan to take CHEM 112 alongside another course with a lab.

Does anyone know if BIOL 212 is GPA friendly, and if a first year student should take this course? Or if they should take BIOL 102/3 instead?

Thank you!

Should I go to Aston or Lancaster?

Hi all! I'm an international student from Canada and I've received offers from both Lancaster and Aston University. I'm not sure which offer to take - I aim to practice elsewhere internationally in the future, and I'm looking at potentionally Canada or Australia.

This is how I'm weighing my pros and cons:

Lancaster, pros:

  • Older, more established medical program
  • Nicer looking campus

Lancaster, cons:

  • Rural, difficult to commute
  • Smaller community (less fish in the sea, harder to find communities for hobbies like classical music)

Aston, pros:

  • Diverse community (easier to get established in a new country)
  • City life (easier to grocery shop, commute, etc)

Aston, cons:

  • New medical program

Questions:

  • For either Aston or Lancaster University, should I expect to have to drive far distances to my hospital placements?
  • Will the reputation of Aston University hinder the opportunities I can find in the UK, whether that be research, electives, etc?
  • Since Aston University has a new medical program, will its medical degree be seen as less credible internationally in contrast to other universities in the UK?

Any advice is much appreciated!! Thank you for the help!

UCAS firm/insurance - how does it work?

hi all - international student here!

i have 3/4 of my decisions on UCAS. i've recieved an offer i want to accept (from uni #1) before March 31st 2026, but I'm still waiting on a decision from my last university, uni #2. is it okay for me to withdraw from uni #2, if it means the latest decision i've recieved is from uni #1 and it would've been past the reply date for it, May 6?

sorry for the confusion and bad wording! i will be more than happy to clarify and thank you for the help!!
