Anyone currently living at Xior Zernikestraat? Looking for honest reviews on facilities.

I'm moving to Eindhoven and have an offer from Xior on Zernikestraat. I know the housing market here is brutal and options are limited, but after reading several negative reviews online and hearing mixed feedback from people who've lived in Xior properties, I’m feeling pretty skeptical.

If anyone currently lives at the Zernikestraat building (or recently moved out), I’d really appreciate an honest reality check on a few specific things:

Q1. What is the actual state of the rooms, heating, and Wi-Fi? Are the laundry facilities reliable, or is it a constant headache to get a machine?

Q2 How responsive is the local building manager when repairs are needed? Does stuff actually get fixed in a reasonable timeframe?

Q3 How secure is the building regarding bike storage, and main entrance doors?

Q4. Have you run into issues with unexpected service charges or end-of-year utility balancing?

Q5. How is the soundproofing between studios? Is it easy to meet people, or does everyone keep to themselves?

Given the prices they charge, I want to know if it's decent enough to live in out of necessity, or if the red flags are as bad as people claim.

Thanks in advance!

How stressful is the PhD Go/No-Go at TU/e (specifically Electrical Engineering)? Looking for experiences

Hey everyone,

I’m about to start a PhD at TU/e in the Electrical Engineering (EE) department. I’m moving to Eindhoven soon, and while I’m excited, I’m also feeling a bit of imposter syndrome and getting anxious about the Go/No-Go evaluation at the 9 month mark.

I know the Dutch system is quite strict compared to other EU countries when it comes to formalizing this checkpoint. I’d love to hear from current or former TU/e EE PhDs:

1 How is the Go/No-Go in EE actually handled? Is it a highly stressful "defense" style situation, or is it more of a formality if you've been working consistently and communicating with your supervisor?

2 What are the expectations? What do supervisors actually expect you to have achieved by month 9? (e.g., a fully drafted paper, just a literature review, or a concrete plan?)

3 Have you seen people actually get a "No-Go"? If so, what is usually the root cause?

Would appreciate any honest insights.

Thanks in advance!

Moving from Finland (TU/e) for a PhD: how is the work culture, pressure, and supervision?

I'm currently living in Finland and considering a PhD offer at TU Eindhoven (TU/e). I am very familiar with the Finnish academic system-where there is high autonomy, a very flat hierarchy, good work-life balance, and generally low day-to-day pressure.

I want to understand what the transition to the Dutch system looks like, specifically regarding the daily grind. I'd love to hear from anyone currently doing a PhD at TU/ e or in the Netherlands.

Here are a few simple questions:

1 In Finland, supervisors give you a lot of space, which is great but can sometimes feel a bit isolating. How hands-on are the professors and postdocs at TU/e?

Do you get a lot of guidance, or are you expected to completely manage your own project from day one?

  1. Is the work culture at TU/e heavily pressure-based? Do you feel constant stress to hit milestones, or is there a healthy respect for work-life balance and working standard hours? Are weekends and evenings generally respected, or is there an unwritten expectation to οverwork?

To be completely honest, I don't really consider myself the "ideal" or traditional candidate for a PhD, but it's an opportunity I really want to try out and give a shot. Because of that, knowing whether the environment is supportive or a high-pressure pressure cooker will really help me make my final choice

I'd really appreciate any insights on how stressful or supportive the environment actually feels on a daily basis.

Thanks in advance!
