Home groom hack

My rescue spoo is still learning cooperative grooming and especially hates her feet being handled. She also tends to get bored easily during drying and grooming (I am not fast 🥲), but I started attaching a frozen peanut butter lickmat to the grooming arm. It keeps her distracted and adds more positivity to getting her feet done!

I saw this on a groomer video on instagram, so I take no credit for the idea. Essentially, I bought a clamp-on bicycle phone mount, the biggest phone case I could find, and a pair of soft lickmats with a bunch of small suction cups on the back. I cut the lickmats to fit the phone case, and I keep them in the freezer with peanut butter ready to go.

Note: it does get a little messy, so I make sure to shave her face first if I’m grooming so nothing gets in my clipper blades.

Help! Can you really just cut plissé and not hem?

Hey y’all! I recently got this gorgeous silk plissé gown for my upcoming wedding. It’s a bit long for me, even with heels, and nearly everything I can find online says plissé can be cut and not hemmed without unraveling. The dress already seems to have a raw hem, but I’m still so nervous to just cut into it without being sure.

I live in a small city and I’m nervous to trust a seamstress I don’t know with it since I won’t be able to find the same dress in my size again if disaster strikes.

On the flip side, I imagine using a rolled hem foot or even stay-stitching close to the bottom will ruin the drape of the plissé or just be super noticeable.

Or should I just resign myself to wearing pleasers and hope I don’t roll an ankle?

In case it’s helpful to know: I’m an intermediate sewist and have hemmed/ altered chiffon and silk dresses before, but I’m also an anxious weeny.

Even better than expected

Got the Void Deck tarot cards just four days after I ordered it (and of course I ordered it within 20 minutes of seeing the post from the artist u/thegeekstress). The quality is so good! The cards have a nice weight, clear, crisp printing, and the gold edging is so shiny!

I haven’t used the deck yet, but I think my favorite design from the major arcana is the Death card. I have other decks I’ve used and loved, but this one is so unique and perfect for void enthusiasts 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛

(also fyi I’m not affiliated or connected with the artist in any way, I just love black cats, tarot, and supporting real artists)
