Pray for Benny 🛁

Pray for Benny 🛁

He’s getting better little by little, but he really hates to take a bath 😭

Does anyone else have a poodle that never fully acclimated to to a bath, or something else- despite your best efforts?

1st proper poodle 🐩 cut!

Cosmo coconut FINALLY got a proper poodle cut!! And I’m soooo in love with it. See before and afters!! 😩🥰🥰

My 13yo wants to color him the next time since the dog spa offers it but idk how the “puppy safe bleach” will do on his coat/skin? Has anyone tried this with their black haired pup?? 💕🐾🐩

Working on a puppy trim with spray up 🫠

I literally never get to do an entire groom start to finish on the same day. And certainly only practice spray ups on maintenance bath day 😂😂😂

But here’s my 1/2 of a haircut from earlier this week, learning the proper angulation is rough! I doubt I’ll get it right before he goes into a conti lol

Hendrix is terrified of the blow dryer 🥺

Any tips on how to get puppy to accept blow dryer ? I put it on low heat, low vent. First he resisted , then he stayed sitting still but he was shaking so much it broke my heart, and when I turned off the dryer I could hear him cry. 💔

I got him 70% dry but I didn’t finish drying him, I rolled him on a towel and put him on my legs and he hasn’t moved since which is unlike him (it’s been about 20min).

He is a mini poodle and he is gonna be 12 weeks tomorrow.

I wanted to bathe him and dry him home in preparation for his first professional grooming later this week. But now I’m so scared for him. 🥺

Bath #2 times and notes

Got a proper before pic in the tub this time.

This is Thea. Cosmo’s litter mate with a very different coat. Hers is finer and a much tighter curl. It mats more easily but they’re much easier to brush out. This side is her favorite position, and I very often had to turn her back around to get her other side. Her next favorite position is having her sopping wet head sticking outside of the tub. Fun times. Oh and she doesn’t like when I use the dryer on her. Not a fan of amateurs I guess lol.

My stopwatch app glitched when I thought I could set a timer for the conditioner to sit, so it made the stop watch disappear and I had to start over, except it didn’t and continued to go nonstop in the background. Anyway

Lap 1: not counting the 28 minute bath (I washed her 3 times as well,) included a roughly 10 minute conditioner brush out and a roughly 13 minute rinse. I’m trying a new conditioner and it gets quite sudsy when I rinse it out.

Lap 2: Towel dry. I was much more thorough as I know she didn’t like the HV and wanted her as dry as possible.

Lap 3: HV dry. I was highly impressed with her and myself. This also reminded me of just how much slower I was drying Cosmo lol. This is the best blowout I’ve been able to do with her yet; usually the most I’m able to do is knock the water off the most of her body and legs. I even forgot to spray The Stuff on her until about 2/3 of the way through. I’m so proud of her. She started tapping out when I got to the back of her neck (she was wearing a happy hoodie, so right up to that) there was no way I was touching her head but at least I got a bit of her tail.

I devoured some leftover steak dinner when I was done. Well deserved.

How long does it take you to groom your poodles? Do you have any tips and tricks

How long does it take you guys to groom your poodles? I feel like I'm not doing anything super elaborate and when all is said and done its about 4 hours each. Anyone pick up any tips and tricks to speed it up a little?

Razor burn

Hi guys this is my little boy. I groom him on my own, usually doing a 10 blade reversed but accidently did a 30. Realizing after the first couple swipes, his skin didn’t look irritated so (f*ck it!) I continued.

No irritation showed until checking on him this morning. He looks awful. We have a cone on him to prevent further scratching.

Please help with home remedies and ideas to soothe him. I am currently dog-sitting for someone else so my partner is taking care of him. He also has severe separation anxiety and keeps itching obsessively. I’m so worried about infection!! Help!!

I included how I usually groom him and how he looks as of today.

Bath #1 times and notes

This is Cosmo. He sleeps in our bed (whether we like it or not) and he has a loose curl pattern with coarse strands. Doesn’t mat very easily but once they’re set in, they’re DIFFICULT to get out. He’s a good boy, very bulletproof, however will think about escaping if you step back open the door for some air (a couple “Aht Ahts” will have him reconsider.)

Lap #1: 3 baths, conditioner application, and rinse (26:50,) an 8 minute conditioner set I didn’t include, and ~17 minutes of VERY thorough rinsing.

Lap #2: towel dry

Lap #3: HV dry, plus running downstairs to grab Ear pro for him and myself. I cannot get the hose attachment off for anything, so his head and tail got minimal drying time. Harder to brush out whip knots than tangles from air drying

Will post part 2 later today

Benny ♥️

I trimmed his face myself. I like the look of the Korean toy poodles. Any tips or suggestions on grooming?

I AM SO EXCITED

I did it. After months of homemade contraptions and money wasted on cheaper alternatives I finally got this stand that I have been eyeballing since I started my DIY journey.

Upside: my back will thank me!
Downside: I am definitely running out of space 🤣

Speaking of running out of room, I would love to see how some of you are organizing all of your products and tools. Bonus points for unusual or creative solutions or if you’re working with limited space like me- I need some inspiration!

Helpful Clipper Tips

I saved this chart a while ago and as a self taught DIYer I found it somewhat helpful! If any of the pros see something missing, incorrect, or if you know something differently let us know in the comments!

One thing I notice that is not mentioned is to always use clippers on a freshly washed and fluff dried coat :)

What clippers do you use? What brand blades?

Looking to see what clippers you use and what blades?

I have a 7yo mini and prior I had an Spoo too. I tried several in the beginning and ended up with Andis. Used it for many years. Current Andis is a 2012 purchase.

I tried several blades, ended up with Andis too. Last purchased in 2020. This was ok for Spoo but not as good on mini. Tried several. Last one suggested was Buttercut. Just tried it and it was an unpleasant surprise. It got hot enough after about 10 minutes to get a slight burn (me, not dog). Never happened with Andis.

I am at a loss. What clippers and blades would you suggest?

Help is very much appreaciated. Thank you

Growing out his top knot. He’s looking up at it like really, this again?

In 2 months I’ll put him in a short body clip with clean paws, poms and a big top knot with a ponytail. I might shave his ears again. He’s such an easy going old boy. He loves laying down and getting his hair brushed.

Prince Caspian getting a touch up.

Sometimes be doesn’t want to go to the grooming room I have, so I’ll put a towel down and he’ll get on the kitchen island for his touch up. I don’t recommend this to anyone. But he’s been groomed by me since he was 8 weeks old and he’s a mellow dog. He just prefers to be around the hustle and bustle sometimes. :)

Spoo Grooming at Home

How did I do?
Okay, before you comment on the Clydesdale hooves in the back, last time I trimmed her I kept the fluffs in the back too low. I trimmed them below her... heal? Anyway, when I used the clippers this time, I stopped higher up and faded it down. My intention is to eventually bring the puffs up higher. Thus the bell bottoms.
Other than that... and her back tendon going through the guard and shaving down to the skin (I tell myself every time to move the skin over so this doesn't happen and it still did to both ankles...), I think I'm improving!
My silkie chicken (1yr, 10mo) is getting better every time I groom her. I notice the more I stay calm and offer lots of treats, the better she does. She is still so flinchy around the nose though. I Have been brushing her regularly and only have found a couple small mats around her ears and back paws. Im open to all (kind) feedback and suggestions!
(I gave her a ponytail after this. Don't worry, chicken can see!)

50 blades of Djinn ✂️ 🐩

All different cuts I've done on my brindle minipoo, Djinn. I'm not a groomer, I have learned through YouTube so some cuts are awful as I'm still learning lol.

These cuts are in chronological order from 8m-2y. I love his first and last cuts the best! ♥️
