Any updates on NXTPAPER OLED/AMOLED?

TCL announced its next-generation NXTPAPER technology integrated with AMOLED at MWC in March 2026, but I haven't seen many updates since.

Has anyone heard anything about when the first phone using it might launch, or any leaks about the device, specs, pricing, or availability?

It's been over five months since the announcement, so I'm curious if I missed any news.

The Bashmurian Resistance: Egypt’s Forgotten Resistance Against the Muslim Conquerors

The Bashmurian resistance was one of the most remarkable chapters of Egyptian resistance following the Muslim conquest of Egypt.

In the marshlands of the northern Nile Delta, predominantly Coptic Egyptian Bashmurites repeatedly rose against the Muslim conquerors. Their revolts were fueled by the injustice of Muslim rulers and relentless demands for money: oppressive taxation, abuses by officials, and increasingly harsh treatment of the local population.

Among the few Egyptian resistance leaders whose names survived is Mina (Menas), son of Apacyrus, associated with the Bashmurite uprising of 749 CE.

The Bashmurites used their intimate knowledge of the lakes, reeds and waterways to resist much larger Umayyad and Abbasid armies. Their resistance became so formidable that during the final uprising, the Abbasid commander al-Afshin failed to subdue them, eventually forcing Caliph al-Ma'mun himself to come to Egypt in 832 CE and take charge of the campaign.

The fighting was bloody, with historical accounts describing heavy losses on both sides, although no reliable Egyptian death toll survives. After the Bashmurites were finally overwhelmed, their homeland was devastated and many were killed, imprisoned, displaced, enslaved or deported.

They ultimately lost, but only after generations of resistance against one of the most powerful empires of their age. A largely forgotten story of Egyptian courage, resistance and sacrifice against conquest and oppression.

Pages left in chapter takes too much space on small screens

The “X pages left in chapter” indicator consumes a huge amount of the bottom bar, especially on smartphones and phone-sized e-readers. In the example above, it takes roughly ⅔ of the available status-bar space

Other reading platforms solve this much more compactly by showing a negative page count, for example: “-10” which means 10 pages remaining in the chapter (and remaining minutes as -5m for instance, which means 5 minutes remaining); This communicates the same information while using a fraction of the space, leaving room for overall page progress and other useful indicators

I’d love to see Readest adopt this compact format, at least as an option, small label change with massive user experience value

Unable to highlight the first line of a page

It's impossible to highlight the first line of a page when using No Scroll mode, swipe to the next page, and Instant Highlight. It appears that the touch area for the first line is either missing or being intercepted by another UI element. Highlighting works correctly for all other lines on the page. I recorded a short video demonstrating the issue. The OS is Android 14, Readest v0.11.20, and the device is Bigme B6 color.

TCL UI 9.0 Warm Color Temperature in Color Paper Mode 🔥🌡️

I just discovered a fantastic improvement in TCL UI 9.0 on my TCL NXTPAPER 60 ULTRA and I think e-books lovers will really appreciate it

Color Paper Mode now supports warm color temperature adjustment🔥

In previous versions, I actually stopped using Color Paper Mode because it lacked warm color temperature, and it was painful to use its cold light at night. I preferred reading with a warmer screen, so I had to stick with Normal Mode or Max Ink Mode, where this option was available. I discovered the introduction of this feature by accident in the new UI

After upgrading to UI 9.0, warm color temperature is finally available in Color Paper Mode as well, making long reading sessions much more comfortable, especially in the evening

For me, this is one of the best quality-of-reading improvements in the update. Combined with the excellent NXTPAPER display, it has completely replaced all of my E Ink devices; I now do 100% of my reading on the TCL NXTPAPER 60 ULTRA 🎊🎉

BOOX Picco (New 3.97" E-Reader)

Exciting news for fans of ultra-portable e-readers! 🎉🎊

Several outlets, including eWritable, Android Authority, and Notebookcheck, are reporting that BOOX is preparing a new BOOX Picco with a 3.97-inch monochrome E Ink display, front light, and microSD (TF) card slot, aimed at the pocket-sized reader category. If true, this could be one of the smallest dedicated Android e-readers BOOX has released, and exactly what many of us have been looking for in the market. So far, details such as the display resolution, processor, RAM, storage, battery, price, and release date remain unknown.

With the recent excitement around compact readers like the Xteink's X3, X4, X4 Pro, and S4, it's great to see more manufacturers exploring this form factor. More competition usually means more innovation, better choices for readers, and faster advancement in technology and supported capabilities.

⚠️ One important note: although multiple reputable sites are reporting the same information, I haven't been been able to verify the original BOOX announcement or the reported Weibo teaser myself, so this should still be considered unconfirmed until BOOX makes an official announcement.

B6 is underrated!

The Bigme B6's color quality and ghosting management are seriously underrated. They look fantastic. I also own a Kindle Colorsoft, and I genuinely prefer the B6. The warm front light is much more natural and comfortable, especially for reading at night.

The photos above are completely unedited, taken with no front light while reading in a café on a (not-so-much) bright morning, and on the least crisp and least color-vivid mode: "extreme" (other modes are much better in color rendering but flickers on scrolling). Before buying the B6, the online photos made me expect much worse image quality. It has exceeded my expectations.

Highly recommended.

P.S. Bigme's software still has room for improvement. Boox is ahead when it comes to software polish and OS optimization, but the B6 hardware is very capable.

Tap-to-Paginate Issue After June 19 Android Update

After the June 19 update, tap-to-paginate on Android is behaving strangely.

Pagination only works when tapping on the empty margins at the sides of the screen. If I tap on text (on the right side, where the next-page tap zone usually is), the page does not turn. As a result, when reading in paged mode, I constantly have to search for an empty area near the screen edges to tap in order to turn the page, which is not user-friendly. In addition, many taps are not registered correctly, making page turns unreliable and frustrating.

This behavior was not present before the update and significantly impacts the reading experience.

Bigme B6 Color is Underrated

I've been using the Bigme B6 Color (2GB RAM) for a full week now, and I can confidently say it's one of the most underrated e-readers on social media.

I also own a Kindle Colorsoft, and to my eyes the B6 delivers better color rendering, sharper text, and a warmer front light for night reading (colorsoft is no doubt "whiter")

I also have a Boox Go6 (2GB RAM, B&W). Interestingly, a large, resource-heavy, book crashes on the Go 6, but opens and runs smoothly on the B6. I suspect Bigme's virtual RAM and memory management optimizations play a role here. The B6 also shows noticeably less ghosting than the Go6 even in the extreme (fastest) mode.

One thing I highly recommend is disabling or uninstalling as many preinstalled apps as possible. Several of them run background services that consume RAM and battery, and removing them noticeably improves responsiveness and battery on a 2GB device.

Battery life is roughly comparable to the Go 6. As with all Android-based e-readers, don't expect Kindle-level battery optimization.

If your primary goal is reading, especially reading in color, the B6 2GB is an excellent device and a great value. The biggest limitation is multitasking, which is quite weak due to the limited RAM. This is not a general-purpose Android tablet, it's a more reading-dedicated device.

If you're looking for a color books e-reader, the Bigme B6 (2GB) is a fantastic choice and well worth considering.

Hide top bar?

Is there a way to hide the top bar (click, battery, Bluetooth, DND..etc), it's always persistent while reading and it doesn't auto hide.

X3 ➞ 2X ❤️

I set a Goodreads goal of 20 books for 2026. Finished it 202 days early and increased my reading rate by 2X. The X3 has completely changed my reading habits. Curious if other X3/X4 owners have experienced the same thing? 🤩 😍

I tried the Crosspoint Font Builder, and it’s excellent. It works for both X4 and X3 like a charm 💃🕺

  1. Flash the beta version: https://crosspointreader.com/#flash-tools

  2. Download your preferred font (TTF or OTF; include regular, italic, bold, and bold italic)

  3. Build the CPFont (Crosspoint's font) in four sizes: https://crosspointreader.com/fonts

  4. Connect the X3 or X4 device to Wi-Fi or create a hotspot from it. A new “Fonts” tab will appear in your browser (192.168.X.XX) where you can upload the built CPFont files (the four sizes)

  5. The new font will then appear in the device settings

🚩 There is also a set of prebuilt cpfonts available directly in the device settings, so you can download and use them directly to the device, without going through these steps.

⚠️ The only downside is slightly slower indexing, since the font is read from the SD card rather than being precompiled like in other Crosspoint versions. Still, this is a strong feature and clearly the right direction. Also, the Crosspoint beta version doesn't have the clock in X3.

Big thanks to the community for making it possible. Lots of love 💕
