Hi everyone, I’m currently a 12th-grade CBSE student preparing for UCEED, and I’m dealing with a lot of confusion regarding my career path, degree choices, and how to communicate my goals to my parents. I’d really appreciate some guidance!
My ultimate goal is to become a visionary creator, storyteller, or director in the animation industry. I am heavily inspired by creators like the writer of Doraemon and the director of Attack on Titan. I want to be the creative lead who brings entire worlds and narratives to life.
However, they seem to believe that the "great future" and big money in animation strictly lie in VFX and CGI artist roles.
My Fear: I am worried that if I tell them I want to be a storyteller/director instead of a VFX/CGI artist, they might think I am settling for something "lower" or less lucrative.
My Goal: I need to assure them that I am not going to waste their money. I want to prove that taking a 4-year degree without taking up a job right away is an investment in a highly respected, stable career, and that a successful Animation Director or Showrunner can actually earn just as much (if not more) than senior VFX artists.
My confusions:
I’m hitting a wall with a few technical details and would love some clarity from people in the industry or design colleges:
Degree Nomenclature: I’m a bit confused about what to even call my desired path. Should I be pursuing a "Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Animation" or a "Bachelor in Filmmaking"?
IITs and B.Des: I’ve been looking into places like IIT Bombay (IDC School of Design). I know they have a 4-year program, but I am finding it hard to get specific details on how well their curriculum aligns with becoming a purely animation-focused director or storyteller.
Fresher Packages & Roles: How do starting packages for roles like Character Animator, Concept Artist, or Storyboard Artist compare to entry-level VFX/CGI artists? I want to have solid facts to present to my parents so they don't think I'm just throwing out lump-sum numbers like a fool.
I am preparing for the UCEED examination. I want to become an animator. But due to lack of awareness about animation careers in people around me. I am helpless.
I got 308 marks in CUET. What are my chances for JNU UG Japanese.
