Should I switch from BTech to BCA at this point? Need advice for 2026 admissions
I’m really confused about what to do now after all entrance exams, so I wanted genuine advice based on the current 2026 admission scenario.
My background:
PCM student
From Jharkhand
EWS category
CBSE Class 12 Boards: 66%
JEE Main: 56 percentile (~7 lakh rank)
Gave VITEEE and got around 98k rank
Problem with VIT:
I’ll probably only get mid/lower branches at very high fees
VIT also requires 60% aggregate in PCM and I currently don’t qualify because of low maths marks
I am planning to give CBSE maths improvement exam in July, so maybe my percentage can improve later
Then I gave COMEDK:
Expecting around 57 marks
From previous trends I may get around 45k–55k rank
That might get me CSE/specialization only in low-tier colleges with high fees
Even through Jharkhand state counselling, at my JEE score I would mostly get very local colleges with little exposure/opportunities, so that option also doesn’t feel very convincing.
At this point almost every BTech option available to me feels:
low tier
expensive
very strict academically
poor ROI
Because of this I’m seriously considering switching to BCA instead of forcing BTech from a random private college.
I did NOT give CUET or any other CET specifically for BCA admissions, so currently looking for colleges that take admission mainly through boards marks/direct admission.
So far I’ve applied for SRM University BCA and I think I have a good chance of selection.
My main question:
In the context of 2026 admissions, if I am NOT considering a JEE drop year, what would be the smarter choice now?
Low-tier expensive BTech CSE
OR
BCA from a decent college + skills + maybe MCA later
Would really appreciate practical advice from people who were in similar situations or know current placement reality or have been in similar situations before taking admission in bca.
