On my yearly business trip to Asia, missing my pup quite a lot. So here’s some photos of my boy Woolman.

I have a conference in SE Asia every October that takes me away from home for about a week and a half.

And every time during this trip I, a 40-year-old vanilla-ass white dude, come to a point where I shed a tear or two because I miss him.

He’s getting older, and now I feel acutely aware that I’m spending valuable limited time far away from him. But thankfully he hasn’t slowed down yet, and he’s managing a small bit of cancer like a champ. He’s being well taken care of by my other half, and I am thankful for that.

Missing my pup.

Who here has been G-Shock hunting in Tokyo? Looking for advice.

Hi there!

I fly to Tokyo on Wednesday for 4 nights, so I've got plenty of time on my hands and am searching to add to my collection. This is my 6th visit or so, but my first in about 10 years and my first since I started collecting G-Shocks.

I'm staying in Shinjuku. I can see the ISHIDA G-Shock concept shop near the station, and the official G-Shock Store in Shibuya looks like the flagship now.

I'm also planning on Yodobashi and Bic Camera for selection, but I've heard there are independent shops with an even bigger G-Shock collection.

Does anyone here have experience with the Tokyo G-Shock scene?

What I'm hunting for: JF/JR digitals with Tough Solar and MB6; anything Japan-only. Original 90s/00s pieces are great too, but I know the early ones won't have both TS and MB6, so I'm mostly thinking mid to late 00s. I'd also love a lead on where to find vintage 80s/90s Japan-exclusives, even without TS or MB6.

Just trying to figure out which stores are worth my time while I'm in town. Thanks everyone!

Early return to Miami on the Resilient Lady, a data point.

Currently on the last night of a 4 night cruise out of Miami, just 25 minutes after departing Bimini, the Captain came over the intercom to inform us that we would be making best speed to Miami tonight to disembark a very sick crew member. The Casino and shops close at 9:15pm and we arrive at 10:30pm instead of 4:30am.

Other than that, nothing has changed. Disembarking will occur as scheduled tomorrow, so we’ll just be spending the night in Miami instead of at sea.

The crew has been very accommodating, and this really isn’t a huge deal at all. In fact, I’ve never been up at 4am before to see the return to Miami/Port Everglades, so I’m actually looking forward to that.

All in all, well handled from the crew and they are keeping us informed. It has been an awesome sailing so far (my first) and I’d absolutely cruise with Virgin before any other cruise line. And I say that as someone who use to work at RC corporate 😂

Just wanted to add the data point! Cheers!

Embarkation Question out of Miami.

Hello!

Question about embarkation out of Miami.

Tired to find an answer to this question on the sub, but came up a little short.

Our boarding time is 3:15pm. However, in the App, it shows the mandatory Muster drill at 3pm.

How does this work? Are we boarding after the Muster drill?

Appreciate the help! Looking forward to my first cruise on Virgin!

Advice on taking father and older brother on Virgin Voyages.

Hi there,

My father turns 70 this fall, and for his birthday he suggested that he, my brother (43m) and myself (40m) take a 4-night Virgin cruise out of Miami. We have three adjacent rooms with connecting balconies booked.

The three of us are exceedingly progressive people. He’s a boomer, but one who Brother and I both agree will have fun in the non-traditional/alternative cruiser scene.

Anyway, I’ve been on quite a few cruises over the years, most recently earlier this year for a sick relative. My father has recently been on a few Viking River Cruises that he wasn’t a fan of (he’s a hot weather guy). Brother hasn’t been on a cruise since we all went as a family in the early 90’s on The Big Red Boat.

I booked all of our dining reservations, including The Wake for Dad’s birthday night. He has explicitly asked for no excursions: we will be in Key West on his birthday, and he’s considering staying on the boat in Bimini. He will pass on the casino and shows, and mostly just want to people watch on the ship and do a Duval Street crawl.

With that said, any advice for first time cruises on Virgin Voyages, given our group?

Appreciate it, y’all!

edit: weather

Woolman wanted to check in and say hello.

I’ve been fortunate enough to share my boy Woolman with you all on a few occasions. Some good, some bad, but he’s a pittie to the max and this is a unique community here on Reddit that has meant a lot to me.

Maybe you know him, maybe you don’t, but Woolman wanted to check in and say hello, his cancer is still in remission, and he is as cuddly as ever.

If you don’t know him, I came across Woolman on the side of a busy highway in Atlanta, nearly dead. That was years ago now, and he’s had the softest life since.

I also *might* be on one of my many, many long, far away business trips where I tend to miss him the most. So we all get photos of Woolman as a result.

And lastly, while he absolutely adores all humans, his past gives him a tough time being around other dogs (other than his late brother Henry). So he sends his pittie cuddles and nibs from a distance, but sends them with all of the love in the world 😂

Nearly all Trans-Atlantic flights from Atlanta to Europe tomorrow are delayed.

Anyone know what’s what? Delta agent said there’s a “performance issue” but she immediately said that looked suspect to her and she then called it a “placeholder”. I also struggle to see that as an issue with the A330-900 and especially in light of the multiple delays.

Flights delays out of ATL tomorrow:

DL70 ATL-AMS
DL72 ATL-AMS
DL74 ATL-AMS
DL82 ATL-CDG
DL100 ATL-CDG
DL84 ATL-CDG
DL30 ATL-LHR
DL32 ATL-LHR
DL36 ATL-LHR
DL66 ATL-FCO
DL14 ATL-FRA

I stopped at this point after manually searching.

Edit: more delays:
DL34 ATL-EDI
DL90 ATL-ZRH

Edit 2: now my flight is back on-time. huh?

Edit 3: got an official text from Delta apologizing for an IT issue that marked all of the above flights as “delayed”. It has now been resolved and flights are back on time.

Thank you!

Full write-up from my 3 day trip aboard the Shogun out of San Diego.

To start, I should say if you are considering this style of trip, especially out of San Diego, I cannot say enough good things about the Shogun. The Captain, crew, and owner Frank L. are all top-tier operators. They put you on the fish with a rare level of adeptness and efficiency and absolutely did not yell or get angry at anyone for mistakes during the chaos when the bite was on. This outfit is for anglers of all levels; nobody had a bad time. 11/10, highly recommend.

This sort of fishing for tuna is all-night fishing. All gear is rigged on the 8 hour ride out to the Cortes Bank.

When it’s dark and fishing begins, Captain calls “standby” over the PA, and everyone readies up to fish. Once he’s on top of the school he has found, he gives us depth readings and the all clear to drop lines. We drop knife jigs in the water and the tuna strike on the descent. Once you are hooked up it’s like snagging a freight train. It is exceedingly intense, and fun. You fight the fish, the deckies gaff it and tag it, then you’re back on the rail for more. This goes on from sundown till about 30 minutes after sunrise.

Then it’s into day fishing which is a bit slower, and it is when most people catch some sleep.

Rinse and repeat.

21 anglers with a net of 109 BFT. 2 were at 200lbs, 4 were in the 150-175lbs range, and the smallest being 20lbs. 7 anglers (myself included) hit their bag limit of 6 total BFT. My biggest was 55lbs, and I lost part of one to the tax man.

My gear served me incredibly well:

7ft Penn Carnage III Heavy Boat Rod
Penn Fathom 2 40N, 450yds of 80lb braid and 25yds 100 flouro top shop (for night time knife jigs)

6ft Penn Carnage III Heavy Spinning Rod/Jigging
Penn Spinfisher VII 9500 with 400yds 80lb braid and 25yds of 80lb flouro top shot (for fly lining)

Happy to answer any questions. Tight lines!
