Request: memorial hike ideas

Hi friends. I recently had a family member pass away, and in this family we do memorial hikes instead of funerals because we all love the outdoors. I'd love some suggestions around the Seattle-ish area.

-He loved to fly fish, so a hike near a meandering river would be perfect.

-I'd love to bring my dog. 6 miles or less round trip is probably good for him because summertime. We are both healthy and fit. It will just be us and my husband. We will have all day available.

-Willing to drive up to 1.5 hours from Edmonds.

-Will be trying to give thoughts and intention to his memory, so don't really want to do a trail jam-packed with tourists. I get that all hiking in WA is usually pretty traveled. Pockets of quiet time is all I need.

-Would be fun if the hike had some sort of cool feature, like a waterfall to enjoy or a beautiful view to sit and linger at.

Thank you for any suggestions you can offer!

Funeral advice

Hi dads,

I just found out my uncle (dad's brother) passed away due to his dementia. I had a good relationship with him and his wife and am very sad about this loss. I'm immediately conflicted about attending any memorial services for him because I am deeply estranged from my father. He was an abusive man who abandoned my family when I was 12 and we have only seen each other a handful of times in almost 30 years. Last time was at my grandmother's funeral (his mom) where he tried to corner me in the church and say weird things to me about how I was a terrible daughter.

I never want to see him again. But the thought of not being there for my aunt and to honor my uncle is deeply troubling. I don't know what to do and I obviously can't ask my dad.

Thank you for advice

Advice for accepting an award

Seeking some ideas! I recently found out I will be receiving an award at a national work conference and I'll have to go up on the stage, accept it, and say a few words. I don't want to wing it and my humor is very self depracating which can be misinterpreted. I'd prefer to keep it short, sweet and a little funny. I was thinking of thanking my dog for being the best at the end. Side note I have a husband too, he's okay I guess. (Just kidding!)

Any suggestions for things I can say? It's honestly been a tough year for our industry and my job so I need help to keep it positive and not rant about this administration on stage. 🙃

How to approach a shed?

We would like to add a large amount of shed space under our deck in this otherwise neglected area to make it useful.

Ideally we would take up as much width as we can, but the dryer vent is right there near the middle of the space.

How would others approach this?
