Caught a Waymo behaving badly [OC] San Francisco

While sitting in a line of cars at a red light, I watched a Waymo decide to use the bus stop to overtake the entire line and cut in front of everyone.

In SF, those areas generally aren’t meant for regular traffic they’re mostly for passenger pickup/drop-off, or sometimes for turning right when there’s no bus.

The funny part is that if a human driver did this, I’d probably be pissed about them cutting the line. But because it was a cute little Waymo, I found it hilarious and didn’t even mind.

And honestly, the maneuver was completely safe and didn’t even cause a delay. It just looked like the Waymo had decided, “Yeah, I’m going around these guys.”

Waymo is preparing for autonomous charging

You Will

Lead the smart buildings design and implementation of automated test scripts and standardized workflows for EV charging features, from initial development through utility energization and final customer activation.
Act as the primary technical lead ensuring seamless integration between vehicle mechatronic embedded controls, charging hardware, and cloud-based mobile applications.
Define and enforce rigorous quality standards and testing strategies, integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality charging infrastructure.Define and enforce rigorous quality standards and testing strategies, integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality charging infrastructure.
Identify process inefficiencies and lead implementation of automation virtualization opportunities to reduce manual testing and streamline commissioning activities.
Collaborate with product managers, developers, and feature owners while managing external commissioning vendors to ensure all site technical requirements are met.
Adhere to and enforce all safety precautions, particularly regarding high-voltage systems and on-vehicle testing, treating safety as the top priority.
Guide others in best practices, frameworks, and troubleshooting methodologies for complex electrification systems.

Who Should Be Responsible When a Self-Driving Car Encounters a Flooded Road?

I’ve been thinking about a question regarding autonomous vehicles and liability.

If a self driving car drives into a flooded roadway and gets stuck or damaged, who should be responsible?

My initial view is that if a road is unsafe due to flooding, the city or county should be responsible for restricting access or warning drivers. Human drivers can make the same mistake, and we generally rely on local governments to close roads that have become dangerous.

At the same time, autonomous vehicle companies should continue improving their systems so they can detect flooding and other unusual hazards that aren’t part of normal driving conditions.

So where do you draw the line? Should the responsibility primarily fall on the autonomous vehicle company, the local government responsible for road safety, or some combination of both? And would your answer be different for a self-driving car versus a human driver?

The wind took out this giant tree in the Panhandle

I always think about the age of a tree when it’s fallen like this. All the years it stood there, the people it shaded, the storms it survived. And then suddenly there’s just this quiet void where something living used to be.

Person riding their bike on the highway

Captured the moment police were responding to a person riding a bicycle on the highway with no shoulder. Very dangerous, I wonder if they were cited?

Already removing the huge graffiti posted a couple days ago

Another post from a few days ago showed the highway signs had been tagged and you couldn’t even see the street names anymore. The city (or whatever governing body helps with highway maintenance) has already cleaned up the signs. Great job! I love to see my city clean and graffiti free.

What the hell happened here

Something happened compelling a need to email thousands of people a message about nakedness in the Stonestown Y locker room and I know someone here knows what happened. Spill the beans.

Edit/Update/solved?: some of the comments pointed out a well covered X post which explained an ongoing situation since last year involving someone who identifies as female and how they use the female room

Heading through an intersection with four lanes of cross traffic and no stop for those lanes. The car initially did the move where it moved forward a bit to see better. But instead of going when it was clear or moving to the middle of the intersection it just stopped in the middle of the road. Just completely wrong by the car but I never disengaged. I should have taken over when it started to pull out so lesson learned.

I’m also not sure if the engagement from me are even going into the models since it’s not hw4 so not sure if I should event report incidents
