Is this Magic Mouse SOL?

I got a relative's Magic Mouse 2 out today to try and use (since they haven't used it at all in a couple years) but after charging for a few hours, it's still stuck on 0%/1%, at least according to the Mac Battery widget... I did some research and it seems the battery is most likely unable to keep a charge any more, but I would appreciate it if anyone has any other explanations or solutions.
