Accidental child or pet aquisition

Any recs where either the FMC and the MMC accidentally end up responsible for a kid (not a baby) or an animal

To be clear, NO pregnancy, NO babies and NONE of the MCs can be a biological parent.

MMC who isn't hulked out - hidden gems please

I'm in a slump. I've been reading so many samples, so many "stuff your kindles" and haunting this sub for recs for weeks looking for a book that doesn't provoke a painful eyeroll.

My problem is every time the MMC is introduced and the words "large" "big" "massive" "huge" "broad" "enormous" are used to describe the guy my eyes roll into the back of my head. Same with bulging muscles. Why are they all body builders?

I think I was reading {Doctor D'Arco} and the word "massive" was used 3 times to describe his body parts (not even the important one) within 2 pages.

I tried Kingfisher as recommended to get a break from "tiny FMC meets twice her size MMC" but found her MMCs to still be hulked out.

{The Jasad Heir} disappointed me in this regard too because Sylvia was self described as tall and strong and she bent a soldier in half like a pretzel in the first chapters and I was so excited for the trope subversion and then Arin shows up and he's eVEn tALler aNd eVEN sTRonGeR. I love them both but sigh, this is such a recurrent issue ( {the ippos king} is another example ).

And like I mentioned, I've been haunting this sub for a while. Please recommend something that isn't in the monthly rankings - I've read them already or at least checked them out and found other (for me) dealbreakers.

If I sound whiny it's because I'm tired of picturing yaoi manga characters whenever I read "tall dark and massive" (iykyk).

Thank you, I appreciate you and sorry for the long rant.

TLDR: please recommend a hidden gem fantasy romance with a non-massive MMC

Dragonsplague cured by resting at the house

So I found a pawn with DTD. Glowing eyes, the plague lines, everything.

I camped.

It's gone.

Hired her again, she has DTD again.

I rested at the house. It's gone. None of the other pawns have glowy eyes (checked in low brightness photo mode).

Hired her again. She still has it. I assumed this is because the Arisen has not cured her.

Waited a few more days for it to "fester", dismissed the 2nd hired pawn, and rested at the house again. SHE'S CURED.

I guess it's impossible to nuke a town now? 😭

If anyone is curious, or wants to test it, this is Garnet's pawnID (PC): ET30Z03ZU64U

Edit: Garnet was cured after nuking Checkpoint Rest Town. Bob, if you see this, I swear I didn't brine her so the scars aren't my doing 👀

Can anyone please check if my pawn got shadow-banned? (PC)

For context, I am using the Simple Difficulty Tweaks mod to reduce the XP and DCP gain. I recently maxed 4 vocations at lvl 23 for my pawn and suddenly the hires stopped (even the Capcom pity hires).

Pawn ID: 0IB9VS2BE9MN

Much appreciated❤️!

Edit: Thank you to everyone who hired because of this post! You da best 🥹

Anyone need help with the Medusa pawn badge?

Hi, I'm currently working on my pawn badges on PC so if you need help with the Medusa badge let me know. I'm lvl 58 but can work with much lower (my pawn goes for the eyes straight away) or higher (friend hires are free).

Let me know your pawn ID and set Medusa as a pawn quest!

I'm playing an RPG with a sassy companion. Any MMCs like this?

Give me your slow burn, sassy MMC recs, I beg!

Context:

So I'm currently playing Dragon's Dogma 2. It's set in a medieval fantasy world. You make your own blank slate silent protagonist as usual BUT you also get to create a companion character whose job is to assist you in everything, and you get to give them one of 4 personalities and voices.

So I chose the Male Straightforward voice and let me tell you this dude is SASSY. He complains about everything, he openly mocks you and the other hired companions, cracks jokes in the middle of fighting and he has a foppish accent on top.

Then comes the affinity part. At the start, you get these sarcastic lines but as you interact more and more (and avoid drowning him), the companion's affinity increases and he starts to give these vaguely flirty replies ("You are an open book. You've longed for my company, haven't you? Well, here I am." - this one floored me when I first got it). And then he starts blushing and looking away when your protagonist faces him.

The issue of course, is that the game does not have an option to romance your companion. So in my mind this is just the slowest of slow burns haha.

There has to be a book somewhere with this type of dynamic?

Slave MMC recs (but no master/slave power dynamics between MCs)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for books where the MMC was/is/becomes a slave. It's ok even if it's not central to the plot, I just want the drama (trauma).

❌ Please no abusive power dynamics between FMC and MMC if she is the one holding all the power

✅ Also MMC needs to finish the book/series a free man.

✅ Prefer F/M or Poly

✅ Can be fantasy with just romance subplot or full on romantasy.

✅ Any spice level

❌ No teens

❌ No pregnancy or kids

✅ Prefer fantasy setting but paranormal/contemporary/sci-fi is ok too (pls mention what genre)

Thank you all in advance! 💜

Need a new series that will break me with adult MCs

Hi all,

I'm looking for hidden gems (please no Brandon Sanderson or mega-popular authors) of fantasy series with some emotional payoff and a romance secondary or subplot.

Likes:

- ✅multiple POV (male, female, nb)

- ✅ADULT protag (mid 20s to mid 40s or equivalent in long-lived fantasy species)

- ✅one or two romance subplots that get resolved by the end (doesn't have to be happily ever after)

-✅ same amount of focus on character development, relationships, friendships as the focus on world building and action

Dislikes:

-❌ chosen one or prophecies/destinies

-❌ teenage or old fart protagonist

-❌ sheltered naive farm boy saves the world (or the female version which is cynical street urchin girl saves the world)

-❌ only male or only female cast of characters

- ❌sexual assault of a female character

- ❌one or more main characters become parents (no pregnancy/motherhood/fatherhood pls)

- ❌story spans decades or any large body of time

-❌ not really into sci-fi but can read if it's mixed with old fashioned fantasy

-❌ protag climbing up the ranks to become emperor/king/empress etc (no birthright throne, quest for the ultimate power etc)

Authors I've read and liked:

Mark Lawrence, Naomi Novik, Phil Tucker, Lois McMaster Bujold, Cameron Johnston, Marshall Ryan Maresca, R.A. Salvatore, V.E. Schwab, Brian McClellan, Luke Scull, Michael J Sullivan

Authors I didn't enjoy as much: Joe Abercrombie, Jacob Peppers, Pierce Brown, Jon Gwynne

Edit: put the likes first to avoid confusion

Disaster magnet MMC?

I've been reading the first books of a series where the MMC is an absolute disaster magnet.

Let me explain: in {Earthrise by M.C.A Hogarth} FMC has to rescue him from slavers, then he gets >!mindfucked by some dying aliens, then overwhelmed in a scuffle and needs rescue again!< After that, in {Rose Point by M.C.A. Hogarth} he's abducted on a random colony, >!drugged and sexually assaulted, and later in the book attacked and framed by his brother!<, both times rescued by the FMC or the other crew members.

Goes without saying, FMC wants to lock him up somewhere safe lmao. The thing is, he's an experienced fighter and esper, but seems to always be the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time, and has to rely on FMC or other people to get him out of the various situations.

I'm currently on book 3, but I absolutely need more after this.

Do y'all have any recs? Any setting, any spice level.

Thank you!
