UPDATE: 2 days into tape in extensions
I desperately need advice.
A week ago I posted that I got tape ins installed on dirty hair (5 day old dirty hair) - and that when I washed my hair for the first time at home since getting them, two had fallen out. I called the stylist and went back and he placed them back in free of charge and said that it could be because it’s my first time getting extensions and that my hair is still getting used to it.
Well today I washed my hair for the second time (already stressed out and worried more would fall out) and lo and behold, another two came out. 1 came out completely and the other was hanging on only on 1 corner but had slipped and parted from the hair backing it.
I don’t know what to do. I truly don’t have the time to keep going every time I wash my hair to get them placed back in. Do I ask to get them all removed and fully reinstalled on clean hair free of charge? It feels diabolical that I’d have to pay full price to get them removed and reinstalled. Or do I just ask to get them all removed and pay another $365 to get them installed elsewhere (this is what I paid him for installation which was $285 appt + tax + 20% tip)
I’m so sad that my first extensions experience has been this. I wish I would’ve researched that they had to be installed on clean hair before because I would’ve totally just walked out and rescheduled. Or that he at least would’ve told me their sink was broken and couldn’t wash my hair before the appt and I could’ve come with clean hair 😔
2 days into tape in extensions
2 days ago I got curly tape in extensions for the first time but I showed up to my appointment and the sink to wash hair wasn’t working. I had showed up with 5 day old dirty hair expecting it would be washed but he told me that a pipe had burst and that a wash would have been extra cost anyways. There was no mention prior to my appointment that I should come with clean hair or that there would be a fee for a wash etc. (I would’ve paid anyways). He said my hair wasn’t actually that dirty and that he could still do the installation.
I just washed my hair for the first time using Redken acidic bond treatment shampoo and as I was rinsing, one tape in came out and then eventually after I was out of the shower another came out. I should have googled if I could use this shampoo beforehand but in terms of after care was also only told not to place conditioners or oils at the roots since it would break down the adhesive.
I don’t know if it was the fact the extensions were installed on dirty hair or the fact I used my acidic bond treatment shampoo but would love to hear what other people’s thoughts are and what I should do. I don’t know if these tape ins will last 6-8 weeks given 2 already fell out after. For my reinstall should I go to a different stylist? I’m at a loss since I was so excited to finally have long thick hair and now it just seems like it’s been one thing after another.
